High Density Connector System scales to speeds of 12.5 Gbps.

November 21, 2008 - Featuring press fit termination, ZipLine(TM) is offered in orthogonal and backpanel configurations and corresponding power connectors for high-volume applications. It is built on AirMax VS® technology and uses edge-coupling technology to deliver optimal signal density - up to 101 signal pairs per linear in. at 1.5 mm column pitch - with minimal insertion loss and crosstalk, all without metal shields. Data rates can scale up to 12.5 Gb/s without requiring re-design of a basic platform.

FCI's ZipLine(TM) High Density, High Speed Connector System Now Available in High Volumes

FCI's new ZipLine connector system, the industry's highest density high speed connector, is available in production quantities ahead of schedule. Responding to greater than expected customer demand for increased signal density, FCI offers ZipLine connectors in orthogonal and backpanel configurations and corresponding power connectors for high volume applications. With transmission speeds up to 12.5Gb/s and density up to 101 signal pairs per linear inch at 1.5mm column pitch, the ZipLine connector system is the industry's highest connector available with press fit termination.

"In less than a year, we have seen wide acceptance of ZipLine, primarily due to the need for greater density. This has allowed FCI to bring ZipLine to production quantities sooner than anticipated," said Jeff O'Brien, Global Product Manager, FCI.

ZipLine is built upon FCI's proven AirMax VS® technology and offers similar signal integrity performance. Like AirMax VS, the ZipLine connector system uses edge-coupling technology to deliver high signal density with low insertion loss and low crosstalk, all without the use of costly and space-consuming metal shields. Data rates can scale up to 12.5Gb/s without requiring re-design of a basic platform.

ZipLine offers flexible pin configurations with the greatest signal density in all three dimensions to address mechanical and thermal concerns for system designers. In addition to superior electrical performance and signal density, ZipLine offers a high degree of design versatility. Standard orthogonal, backpanel, and power components can be configured in many ways to satisfy unique application requirements without the need for new tooling or long lead times.

The system also uses hard metric design practice and can be placed next to FCI product families including AirMax VS signal, power and guides and FCI new HCI power connectors. For extensive information on specifying and designing ZipLine into applications, visit w w w.fci.com/zipline.
