Handheld Display with Probe accelerates FTTx installations.

November 17, 2008 - Designed to help prevent network downtime caused by contaminated (dirty) fiber, HD3-P provides technicians handling optical fiber with dedicated microscope for patch-cord inspections and probe microscope for bulkhead connector port inspections. Handheld display with 1.8 in. TFT LCD screen and probe delivers 2-in-1 functionality, eliminating need to change inspection tips. This prevents misplacing and mishandling of inspection tips that can cause cross-contamination of fiber.

JDSU Helps Accelerate FTTx Installations with Two-In-One Microscope Inspection Unit

Operators See Significant Increase in Workflow Efficiency and Decrease in Total Inspection Time with New HD3-P Fiber Inspection Tool from JDSU

MILPITAS, Calif., Nov. 6 -- JDSU today announced the release of the HD3-P to help prevent one of the leading causes of network downtime: contaminated, or "dirty," fiber.

The new HD3-P is a handheld display with probe that gives any technician handling optical fiber a dedicated microscope for patch-cord inspections while still providing a probe microscope to inspect the bulkhead connector port. With the new two-in-one functionality, the HD3-P provides a substantial reduction in inspection time and labor costs in the field. With the combined power of two microscopes in one system, there is no need to change inspection tips on the probe, thus preventing the misplacing and mishandling of inspection tips that can cause cross-contamination of fiber.

"Our studies have demonstrated that the JDSU HD3-P cuts time-to-inspect in half, making it even easier to apply Inspect Before You Connect best practices when handling optical connectors," said Matt Brown, director of product management for the JDSU Communications Test and Measurement business segment. Brown added, "This reduction in cycle time allows technicians to significantly increase productivity enabling customers to rapidly realize labor cost savings."

The HD3-P has a 1.8" TFT LCD screen providing crisp, detailed images of fiber-end faces with optimum resolution and comes standard with the GripSwitch(TM) power saver mode to conserve battery life. The HD3-P also provides contamination protection for the male patch cord end by allowing it to be "parked" in the patch cord module.

The new HD3-P display further expands the value of the popular HD3 series with the integration of the patch cord viewing microscope. The HD3 display series for fiber end face inspection is well-known for its high-quality image resolution and compact, portable design. The HD3-P is available as a stand-alone device (HD3-P4 and HD3-P2), kitted with a probe microscope (FBP-SM05), or kitted with a probe and cleaning materials (FBP-SM05-C).
