New Amphenol Rugged Circular Connector Provides High Current in Signal, Control and Power Applications

Sidney, N.Y. November 2008 - Amphenol Industrial, a global leader in interconnect systems, has introduced RoHS-compliant, rugged connectors that provide up to 1500 A in signal, control and power applications. Amphenol's versatile Star-Line EX connectors are typically used in harsh environments, such as wind farms, on and off shore oil drilling and other manufacturing and production applications, due to their certification for use in Zone 1-llc hazardous environments.

Star-Line EX electrical connectors provide electrical, design and instrumentation engineers with a fast and safe interconnection to modular equipment. They come with solder, crimp or pressure terminals, eliminating the need for hard wiring to terminal blocks enclosed in junction boxes, and offering significant time/cost savings during equipment installation or tear-down.

In addition to stainless steel or brass housings, the Star-Line EX series comes in lightweight aluminum housings precision-machined from high-tensile-strength bar stock and finished with a hard-anodized coating to 40 points on the Rockwell C scale.

The series features a dielectric strength of 1,800 V and heat resistance up to 750°F (399°C). Furthermore, Amphenol offers the industry's broadest range of interchangeable and reversible backshell arrangements and contact inserts, including power (up to 1,500 A at 1,000 V), signal (up to 143 contacts) and mixed power and control applications. Contacts are copper with standard silver-plating with optional gold plating available.

Pricing for a RoHS-compliant Star-Line EX connector starts at $200 in quantities of 1,000. Delivery is 8 to 10 weeks ARO.
