Convection Electric Heater operates in harsh environments.

November 7, 2008 - Rated to IP68, Multitherm heater is designed for temperature maintenance or control in harsh environments with dusty or wet process conditions. Fully potted and sealed design has no exposed contacts and can function even when fully submerged. Available with outputs from 25-500 W, unit has 8 x 8 cm square shape and is designed for vertical mounting. Surface profiling optimizes convection heat transfer, and integral thermostat limits ambient temperature in enclosure.

IP68-Rated Convection Heater Provides Reliable Solution for Difficult Process Heating Applications

a much more compact alternative to heat tracing cables

Sarnia, Ontario, October 27, 2007 --- Intertec announces a compact new convection electric heater that has been designed for temperature maintenance or control in harsh environments such as wells, tunnels, water and wastewater plants, pulp/paper mills, rendering/food processing environments, and any dusty or wet process conditions.

The heater has been optimized for reliability, through features including a fully potted and factory-sealed design, and is rated to IP68 - allowing it to function even when fully submerged. Additionally, it has no exposed contacts, so it is highly reliable even in corrosive atmospheres with hydrogen sulphide or ammonia for example. Available with power outputs from 25 to 500 W, the new solution is much smaller and easier to install than the common option of trace heating cabling.

The new product is a variant of Intertec's field-proven and explosion-proof Multitherm design for heating in hazardous environments, with the same high-integrity features, but without the protection markings.

Multitherm features a compact 8x8 cm square shape designed for vertical mounting, with surface profiling that optimizes convection heat transfer. This form factor typically allows the heating element to be positioned closely alongside any process equipment that requires protection against freezing or condensation, or temperature regulation. The heater body is fabricated from seawater-proof aluminium, with a black anodized finish.

As standard, the Multitherm heater comes with a thermostat to limit the ambient temperature in an enclosure. This is located in the electrical connection cable. If precise temperature regulation is required, Intertec can supply the heater with an optional temperature controller.

The power density offered by Multitherm heaters can be very high, as they can be fitted with resistive elements capable of outputs up to 500 W. Heaters vary in length according to output. As an example, a 250 W version measures 22.5x8x8 cm / 8.9x3.15x3.15 inches (HxWxD). By comparison, trace heating cables offer typical outputs of around 10 to 30 W per metre. Intertec can also supply similar heaters but with different shapes - such as block heaters - to suit other applications.
