OPEX Releases New Retail Payment Automation Workstation

MOORESTOWN, N.J., Oct. 29 /-- OPEX Corporation has combined two of its most successful products ever - the Model 51 Rapid Extraction Desk and Image Export Module (IEM) - in the newly released AS180 retail payment automation workstation.

Thousands of organizations worldwide use the Model 51 to increase the speed and efficiency of their mail opening. Additionally, IEM is the industry-standard image delivery platform for the largest processors of credit card, utility, telecom, and other retail payments. By fusing these two technologies together, the AS180 is designed to bring this industry-leading payment automation solution to lower-volume operations and exception processing.

"In the past, some companies wanted the benefits of IEM but didn't have the volume to justify our highest volume equipment like the OPEX Eagle. Other customers wanted to process their exceptions on the same IEM platform they used for their clean mail," explained Mark Stevens, CEO of OPEX Corporation. "The AS180 makes IEM affordable for almost any processor and handles exceptions as if they were standard," he added.

The AS180 is able to handle a wide range of payments, including both single and multiple check and coupon transactions. Mail is loaded onto the extraction desk, automatically opened, and ergonomically presented to an operator for easy extraction. The transaction is then removed from the envelope and dropped in its entirety into the unique drop slot feeder. The AS180 will then separate the pieces, read the MICR, image the items, and interface with remittance processing software in real-time for advanced recognition, electronic payment decisioning, and sorting.

With speeds of up to 3,000 transactions per hour, the advanced functionality on the AS180 does not compromise productivity.

Fully ARC and Check 21 compliant, the AS180 supports full or partial check truncation in a single pass. Processors implementing full truncation can eliminate subsequent encoding and sorting passes entirely for truly dramatic labor and equipment cost reductions.

Leveraging current OPEX technology, the AS180 enters the market bolstered by its pedigree. Jeff Bowen, President of OPEX's Incoming and Scanning Division, explained, "While this is a new product, it is formed from products with proven track records and industry-wide acceptance. Customers with existing Model 51's can have them upgraded in the field to AS180's. This allows them to use the IEM platform - which has been installed in hundreds of operations with all of the leading remittance processing software packages - from a Model 51."
