Punch/Shear Machine features 96 punching stations.

October 27, 2008 - Featuring stationary multi-press head and built-in shear, Model S4X eliminates in-cycle stops for tool changes that limit turret press processing speeds. Manipulator is powered by 2 pairs of rotary electric motors. First pair employs rack and pinion kinematics driven by handover control logic, while second pair uses 2 ball bearing screws directed by gantry control logic to position sheet. All 96 punching tool stations are live and ready to simultaneously punch, countersink, and emboss parts.

Once Again, Raising The Bar Of Flexible Automation. The New, 2009 Salvagnini S4X Punching & Shearing Machine

Hamilton, Ohio (5 October 2008) In this, the thirtieth year since the introduction of the original Salvagnini S4 punching and shearing machine, Salvagnini America is proud to introduce a new generation of S4's -- the Salvagnini S4X - a machine destined to establish new standards in flexibility, accuracy, energy conservation and productivity.

The evolution of the new Salvagnini X-Machines, their systems and software, is the result of hundreds of improvements, some major, some small in scope, but all adding up to machines that, under the skin, are the most radical, most efficient, most reliable, and most cost effective in the industry.

The most visible departure from former S4s is a completely redesigned manipulator, powered by two pairs of rotary electric motors. The first pair employs rack and pinion kinematics driven by new handover control logic, while the second pair uses two ball-bearing screws directed by gantry control logic to position the sheet. The dynamic new manipulator enables the S4X to offer exceptional processing speed, reduced cycle times, increased productivity, and improved accuracy.

The S4X retains Salvagnini's patented stationary, multi-press head that eliminates the in-cycle stops for tool changes that limit turret press processing speeds. All of the S4X's 96 punching tool stations are live and ready to simultaneously punch, countersink and emboss parts with a speed and precision unmatched by competitive machines. Also beneath the fascia of the multi-press head, you will find a built-in shear that can make cuts of any length, creating a highly compact, high-performance, multifunctional system that far surpasses the capabilities of ordinary turrets.

Other major upgrades found in the new S4X include a new hydraulic power pack that reduces power consumption by 30%, an optional cartesian stacker, and the expanded ability to incorporate any and all types of feeding connections.

The S4X punch/shear, like all Salvagnini machines, is based on the lean philosophy of batch one production, few or no tool changes, optimum warehouse management, reduced work-in-process and just-in-time production. With these principles as a starting point, Salvagnini has worked hard to create the S4X - the finest in material handling; punching, shearing; programming and diagnostics for consistent quality and flexible manufacturing.

About Salvagnini. For more than 30 years, Salvagnini has served the global metalworking industry by designing, manufacturing, marketing and servicing flexible sheet metal processing systems, machines, process software and tooling for factory integration. Major product lines include punching and shearing, automatic panel bending and laser cutting systems. And as the originator of automation in the sheet metal fabricating sector, Salvagnini offers complete material handling capabilities, including ASRS, robotic loading/unloading, conveying and parts manipulation. More than 3000 Salvagnini systems are in operation in more than 50 countries around the world.
