Wireless Embedded Module offers 900 MHz HSPA support.


October 9, 2008 - When integrated into fixed wireless terminals, PoS devices, or computers, Model MC8792V offers complete wireless data solution over HSPA networks utilizing 900, 1,900, or 2,100 MHz frequency bands. PCI Express Mini Card includes GPS support and enables hardware devices to function as communications tools with support for simultaneous voice and data usage. Module offers peak data speeds up to 7.2 Mbps on downlink and 2.0 Mbps on uplink.

New Sierra Wireless Embedded Module Enables Market Expansion with 900 MHz HSPA Frequency Support


The Sierra Wireless MC8792V embedded module caters to market diversity, offering 900 MHz HSPA support in a feature-rich, cost-effective product

VANCOUVER, Sept. 29 /-- Sierra Wireless (NASDAQ:SWIR -)(NASDAQ:TSX:)(NASDAQ:SW) today introduced the MC8792V, the newest module added to the Company's growing line of embedded modules. Designed for HSPA networks, the MC8792V is the first Sierra Wireless embedded module to offer 900 MHz frequency band support, providing new and existing original equipment manufacturer (OEM) customers the ability to expand their product offering with this feature-rich mobile broadband solution.

The MC8792V embedded module can be integrated into a variety of OEM devices, including fixed wireless terminals, point-of-sale devices, as well as computers and ruggedized laptops, offering complete wireless data solutions over HSPA networks utilizing the 900, 1900, or 2100 MHz frequency bands. The MC8792V module includes GPS support and enables hardware devices to function as powerful communications tools with both voice and data capabilities. It offers a cost-effective solution for OEM customers, while maintaining high-end functionality and superior performance.

- Tri-band HSPA/UMTS (900, 1900, and 2100 MHz) and quad-band support for EDGE/GPRS/GSM network access for roaming on high-speed networks worldwide

- Peak data speeds of up to 7.2 Mbps (megabits per second) on the downlink and 2.0 Mbps on the uplink (future upgradeable to 5.76 Mbps)

- Voice capabilities, making it ideal for fixed wireless terminals and portable handheld devices that require the ability to make voice calls

- Support for simultaneous voice and data usage

- GPS-capable to support location-based services

Samples of the MC8792V are available to OEM customers for integration and testing. Volume shipments are expected to begin late in the fourth quarter, 2008.
