Bytemobile Launches WebGate Next-Generation Mobile Internet Gateway with New Release of Unison Platform
MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Sept. 25 -- Bytemobile, Inc., the global leader in mobile internet solutions for network operators, today announced the general availability of its WebGate(TM) Service, which provides a single service control point within the network for all wireless data traffic. This enables operators to deliver innovative new data services and applications to their customers while controlling data flow through intelligent service selection.
WebGate Service is the first mobile internet gateway product capable of managing all traffic types. Uniquely positioned in the core data path of the network, the product analyzes and processes traffic at the application level. For example, operators can control the quality of video downloads to differentiate service between premium plan and standard plan subscribers.
WebGate Service is available with the new release of Bytemobile's Unison(TM) Mobile Internet Platform, which has the capacity to handle over twice the volume of data traffic as the previous version. Other features of the new release include acceleration of web page downloads on smartphones, including Apple's 3G iPhone.
Customized Services and Traffic Control
"WebGate Service enables our customers to launch customized data services, including intelligent pricing plans with adaptive enforcement of fair use policies," said Adrian Hall, Bytemobile chief marketing officer. "Our research indicates that 2% of mobile data users generate approximately 50% of data traffic. WebGate Service provides an effective gatekeeper, monitoring data usage and applying policy rules based on user profile, device type, traffic type, and other criteria to ensure fine control of service quality."

Cost-Effective Network Scalability
According to industry estimates, mobile data traffic will roughly double each year from 2008 through 2012. Australian IT reported that some Apple iPhone users consume more than 100 MB of data per month. Consequently, traffic management and network scalability will have direct impact on the competitiveness and profitability of network operators. With the service control capabilities of WebGate Service and the doubled capacity of the new Unison platform, operators can continue to scale their networks ahead of data usage trends, within the footprint of their existing installations.
Faster Smartphone Downloads
Gartner reported that global sales of smartphones reached 64 million in the first half of 2008, up 22% from the same period of 2007. As growing numbers of users rely on mobile devices for their personal computing needs, their impatience with web page download times increases proportionately. As a result, smart optimization is becoming imperative even for operators of HSPA and other high-speed networks. The new release of Bytemobile's Web Velocity(TM) Engine optimization solution significantly speeds up browser downloads on all smartphones while reducing traffic volume over the network.
