New Toll Transponder Fulfills Consumers' Desire for Driver Feedback
In-Vehicle Audio and Visual Cues Communicate Directly with Customers
MISSISSAUGA, Ontario, Sept. 22 -- MARK IV announced the introduction of a new transponder that alerts drivers of successful toll payments and warns of low account balances. Building upon its more than 10 years of experience with driver feedback technology, MARK IV's newest transponder has an even smaller environmental footprint and is compatible with all MARK IV electronic toll collection (ETC) readers deployed in the United States, Canada and Mexico. The driver feedback transponder has already been approved by the Federal Communications Commission in the U.S. and Industry Canada.
"We're responding to requests from toll patrons for a transponder that communicates directly with them about toll transactions, balances and related account issues," stated Mr. Martin Capper, president of MARK IV IVHS, the largest provider of ETC technology in North America. "As more agencies have evolved to Open Road Tolling (ORT) we have heard from a growing number of patrons of their desire for driver feedback. We believe the next evolution to All Electronic Tolling (AET) will increase this demand for driver feedback."
An evolutionary step forward, the new driver feedback tag is based on MARK IV's proven active transponder technology that delivers 99.99 percent capture rates and operates with all MARK IV ETC deployments. The driver feedback transponder is based on the very popular G4E transponder, without feedback, that is now in revenue service at toll facilities including South Carolina's Hilton Head Cross Island Parkway, the Ambassador Bridge in Detroit and the Venetian and Rickenbacker causeways in Miami. MARK IV's G4E transponder is also used for access control at Toronto's Pearson International Airport and will soon be deployed in Greenville, SC's Southern Connector.
Mr. Capper added, "MARK IV continues to strive to provide toll agencies with a solution to all their transponder needs. As ORT continues to grow, we believe the driver feedback tag will be an increasingly important arrow in toll agency's quivers."
"As AET becomes a reality, MARK IV's driver feedback tag will speed the pace of implementation for our toll agencies and enhance the experience of their customers," concluded Mr. Capper.
MARK IV IVHS supplies the majority of electronic toll collection equipment in the northeastern United States. With more than 17 million transponders on the road and more than 3,000 lanes equipped, MARK IV is the largest supplier of its kind in North America. Known for its innovations, MARK IV technology has enabled many landmark intelligent transportation system deployments, including: Canada's Highway 407 ETR, the world's first, non-stop, all-electronic toll road; interoperability between truck electronic preclearance systems and toll collection, numerous border crossing projects; and, the E-ZPass(R) system of the Interagency Group of 24 toll authorities.
