Stratos Adds Onboard Anti-Virus Capabilities to its AmosConnect Maritime Email Service

BETHESDA, MD, Sept. 22 /-- Stratos Global Corporation, the leading global provider of advanced mobile and fixed-site remote communications solutions, today announced the commercial availability of AmosConnect Anti-Virus, the latest addition to its AmosConnect from Stratos maritime satellite communications service.
AmosConnect from Stratos integrates vessel and shore-based office applications. It is an easy-to-use, yet highly sophisticated email service that seamlessly integrates email, fax, telex, GSM text, interoffice communication and access for mobile personnel into a single messaging system. It is designed for use with Inmarsat systems, as well as with Iridium data and Iridium RUDICS systems.
Over 20,000 AmosConnect from Stratos licenses have been issued and the service is used by more than 200,000 officers and crewmembers. Stratos is the largest supplier of mobile satellite services to the maritime industry, with communications to more than 40,000 maritime terminals worldwide.
AmosConnect Anti-Virus provides onboard protection against intrusion of Internet computer viruses and malicious software in the satellite broadband environment. While AmosConnect from Stratos already provides virus protection on the shore side of the network, AmosConnect Anti-Virus is the first Stratos service offering the same high level of security on the vessel side.
AmosConnect Anti-Virus provides daily, automatic downloads via small files (average 10 KB) to the ship's PCs, ensuring cost-efficient protection for onboard computers.

In addition to protecting maritime customers using FleetBroadband from Stratos, AmosConnect Anti-Virus is also available in configurations for land-mobile customers using BGAN from Stratos and aeronautical customers using SwiftBroadband from Stratos.
