PGP® Command Line Now Runs Natively on IBM Mainframes zSeries Systems

New Full Support for Encrypted Large and Bulk File Transfers

MENLO PARK, Calif., Sept. 22 -- PGP Corporation, a global leader in enterprise data protection, today announced a new version of PGP(R) Command Line for IBM zSeries mainframes that now runs natively on the z/OS operating system. This latest release of PGP Command Line builds on PGP Corporation's broad platform and operating systems support, enabling businesses to automatically exchange encrypted data with business partners, customers and internal organizations, and easily integrate encryption scripts into batch, networking and back-up processes.

There are many new and legacy applications running on mainframes that output and process data that must be encrypted. With this release of PGP Command Line, organizations now have the flexibility to protect data wherever it is created or stored on mainframes, eliminating the need to move unencrypted data in order to have it encrypted on another system. Using PGP Command Line, customers are able to easily facilitate secure transfers to and from both mainframe and non-mainframe environments. PGP Command Line also provides patented PGP(R) Additional Decryption Key (ADK) technology, enabling corporate access to encrypted data in the event of key loss or when required by policy. Additionally, PGP Command Line leverages existing infrastructures with support for OpenPGP and X.509 key formats, encryption, digital signing, compression, and secure wiping capabilities. As part of the award-winning PGP(R) Encryption Platform, users of PGP Command Line can use the same PGP(R) encryption technology trusted by millions of users worldwide, to mitigate the security risks of "data in motion" and "data at rest," and adhere to government compliance and industry regulations.

"Data transfer and processing systems are at the heart of any organization exchanging huge volumes of information between internal systems, customers and suppliers. Especially prone to security breaches are legacy transfer systems which were designed before security became such a critical issue, and compliance regulations were put in place," said Jon Oltsik, senior analyst at Enterprise Strategy Group. "Without the right encryption solutions deployed, security gaps are exposed. It is imperative that organizations have automated, encrypted batch-transfer systems in place to protect data at the source. PGP Corporation's encryption solution for mainframes is one of the better kept secrets on the market."

Financial Services companies or large business process outsourcing companies where mainframe environments are exchanging confidential patent data or large volumes of personally identifiable information (PII), protected health information (PHI) and other business-critical information can now automatically encrypt the transfer and back up of their data with PGP Command Line. IBM z/OS administrators can easily integrate information security into existing automation scripts and backup systems, thus ensuring compliance with corporate security policies and information security regulations. From tape backup to batch FTP transfers and distribution of sensitive materials to partners, PGP Command Line provides enterprises with robust encryption capabilities for their automated data processing applications.

"Without the right security measures in place, such as encryption, large volumes of business-critical information become at risk for interception while in transit, as well as from theft when 'data is at rest'," said Steven Schoenfeld, vice president of products and strategy for PGP Corporation. "We are committed to helping our customers establish the best security practices possible with the right enterprise data protection solutions to meet their business needs today, as well as address future data security initiatives. The latest release of PGP Command Line builds on what we already provide today with the PGP(R) Encryption Platform -- multiple layers of security to protect every part of an organizations' business."

Pricing and Availability

PGP(R) Command Line for IBM System zSeries Mainframes is generally available today through the PGP(R) global network of resellers. Pricing for PGP Command Line starts at $10,000 per system.
