Amplicon Launches Four Slot PCI Express Expansion System
Amplicon are pleased to announce the release of the Magma ExpressBox4 (EB4) PCI Express expansion system. This rugged desktop system can provide an easy and affordable solution for connecting up to four PCI Express (PCIe) cards to a computer, server or laptop through a single PCIe or ExpressCard interface. Amplicon supply Magma PCI and PCIe expansion systems that allow for significant cost savings since they eliminate the need to invest in new computer hardware in order to accommodate extra PCI and PCIe slots. They have now expanded this range to include the Magma EB4, a desktop option for the addition of up to four PCIe x16 slots. Common markets and applications benefitting from these systems include broadcast, education, video simulation and industrial automation. As an application example, the PCIe slots in the EB4 can be used to add multiple graphics cards for simultaneous video output from one computer system in broadcast (advertisement) or digital signage (passenger information display) applications. The EB4 consists of a PCIe x8 or ExpressCard34 host card, a cable, a chassis with four PCIe x16 full length expansion slots and a built-in power supply unit. The system is automatically configured by the BIOS making all of the slots appear transparent to the host computer.
The EB4 PCIe expansion system is suited to desktop and rackmount applications, occupying a 2U rackmount space when the supplied rackmount brackets are used. It provides four PCIe slots for the addition of graphics, LAN and other PCIe cards. The standard unit comes with a 420W power supply unit and space for up to four internal 3.5" hard drives where more system storage capacity is needed. The PCIe slots are hot-pluggable, implying that power to individual slots can be selectively turned off without powering down entire system. The low profile, half length PCIe x8 host card allows for easy installation in low profile computers or those with half length PCIe x8 or x16 slots.
