Available in solid- and hollow-shaft models, Ferrofluid-Sealed Rotary Drives feature rotating shaft mounted inside stationary body. Gap between them is filled with fluid containing colloidal suspension of magnetic particles. Under influence of magnets in drive's body, ferrofluid forms liquid O-rings that vacuum-seal shaft. Drives are suited for vacuum applications requiring rotary motion, such as sample stages, barrel coaters, platens, planetaries, and roll/web coaters.

New Line of Ferrofluid-Sealed Rotary Drives from Kurt J. Lesker Company
Kurt J. Lesker Company Ltd introduces a new line of ferrofluid-sealed rotary drives. The rotating shaft is mounted inside the stationary body and the gap between them filled with a low vapor pressure fluid containing a colloidal suspension of magnetic particles. Under the influence of magnets in the drive's body, the ferrofluid forms a series of liquid o-rings that vacuum-seal the shaft.
Such drives are used in vacuum applications requiring rotary motion, including: sample stages, barrel coaters, platens, planetaries, and roll/web coaters. The new line includes both solid- and hollow-shaft drives with an assortment of vacuum chamber mountings: ConFlatŪ flanges, o-ring seal flanges, baseplate mounts, and threaded mounts.
