Aculab Announces the ApplianX DPNSS-to-Q.SIG Gateway

Aculab meets the demands of enterprises looking to leverage DPNSS supplementary services in an IP environment

15th September 2008, Milton Keynes, UK - Aculab, a leading provider of enabling technology for the global communications market, today announced the ApplianX DPNSS-to-Q.SIG Gateway. The gateway enables enterprises to extend the life of their DPNSS-based PBX, whilst taking advantage of new IP PBX solutions, which typically support Q.SIG. The gateway fully supports all supplementary services and is designed to be extremely simple to use. With each gateway converting up to 60 channels of DPNSS-to-Q.SIG it is a cost effective way to realise a DPNSS-to-VoIP migration strategy.

Faye McClenahan, Head of Strategic Marketing explained "There is still a very large installed base of DPNSS PBXs and enterprises are reluctant to surrender the many supplementary services they benefit from when looking to migrate to VoIP". Faye McClenahan continued "New PBX systems are normally IP centric and do not support the DPNSS PBX interworking protocol. However many allow Q.SIG connections, which can perform all the necessary supplementary service mappings - this is where the ApplianX DPNSS-to-Q.SIG Gateway comes into play".

Aculab's ApplianX gateway bridges between the Q.SIG connections of IP PBXs such as Avaya Communications Manager and Cisco Call Manager and the DPNSS extensions on legacy DPNSS PBXs from Avaya, Ericsson, Siemens and Nortel. The gateway performs the necessary translation of the supplementary service to enable users to continue benefiting from the supplementary services they are used to.

All supplementary services are supported by default; however, should the ApplianX gateway be connected to a PBX that does not support one or more of the supplementary services, users can easily disable the mappings of each of these functions. This ensures interoperability between all components in the network.

A private (non-traffic) Ethernet port gives access to the integral HTTP server and provides an HTML web browser interface with separate password protected access levels to allow configuration, administration, traffic monitoring and diagnosis. A set-up wizard is available to help configure the ApplianX gateway so that it is ready to start accepting calls quickly. Due to the interest received to date it is recommended that customers pre-order now to ensure delivery for November/December.

Aculab will be demonstrating the ApplianX DPNSS-to-Q.SIG Gateway at the forthcoming IP'08 event, 1 - 2 October, stand no. 415, Main Hall, Earls Court 2, London, UK, http://www.ipexpo.co.uk/
