Thinklogical Launches Long Distance Single-Mode Fiber Optic KVM Extension Product Line at IBC

Transmission and Reception of DVI Video and Peripheral Signals Up To 40 Kilometers with Unsurpassed Quality

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands and MILFORD, Conn., Sept. 11 /- IBC Conference and Exhibition, Hall and Stand Number 12P.A29 -- Thinklogical, the leading designer and manufacturer of fiber optic connectivity and switching solutions, today unveiled the new VelocityKVM, a single-mode fiber optic KVM extension system. The VelocityKVM product line harnesses advanced single-mode fiber optic technology to transmit and receive DVI video and peripheral signals up to 40 kilometers (approximately 25 miles).

"IBC 2008 is an ideal arena to premier such a product," said Kevin Keefe, Director of Engineering at Thinklogical. "We're delighted to unveil this new product line which will enable our broadcast and post-product customers to push the boundaries beyond the limited distance that multi-mode fiber optic extension offers."

VelocityKVM addresses the issue of bandwidth limitation, which can become a bottleneck for enterprise access and ultimately revenue. This bottleneck oftentimes appears in metropolitan area networks. Optical fiber, specifically single-mode fiber, alleviates this problem offering a substantial amount of bandwidth.

"We are setting up what we call a Metro Matrix for our customers," said Peter Henderson, Vice President of Business Development at Thinklogical. "This gives them the ability to work with various facilities seamlessly, such as a post house to a broadcast studio, even though a considerable distance may separate the physical locations. Therefore, customers will be able to effectively manage their projects, leverage talent, take on a wider variety of projects, and work with the highest quality images where and when they are needed."

The VelocityKVM system consists of a transmitter and a receiver connected by single-mode fiber optic cable. The transmitter unit connects to the computer and the receiver unit provides connections to the user interface devices. Advanced peripheral capability supports PS2, full duplex stereo audio, serial (RS-232), USB 1.0 (HID) device ports, USB 1.1 and 2.0.

The VelocityKVM not only extends video, it effectively supports multiple video source(s), with unsurpassed image quality, over a single fiber. The end result is error-free transmission, with no frame or bit dropping and complete immunity to interference. The system also offers dual-link DVI, one single-mode fiber, and two DVI video channel options.
