X-ray Microanalysis System generates accurate results.

September 2, 2008 - Genesis Apex system combines X-ray detector, digital pulse processing electronics, and Genesis 6 analytical software to generate solid foundation needed for accurate X-ray microanalysis. Digital pulse processor, DPP III, employs pulse pile-up to provide clean spectrum for analysis as well as processing times capable of handling over 1,000,000 cps. Employing physics and rules-based algorithm, EXpert ID provides element identification in one step.

EDAX Launches The Genesis Apex System

System Offers Solid Foundations for Accurate X-ray Microanalysis

MAHWAH, NJ - EDAX Inc., a leader in X-ray microanalysis and electron diffraction instrumentation, has launched the Genesis Apex X-ray microanalysis system.

"In order to generate accurate X-ray microanalysis, solid foundations are of the utmost importance. The Genesis Apex system is designed to improve the key components: the X-ray detector, digital pulse processing electronics and analytical software to generate the solid foundation needed for accurate X-ray microanalysis," explains Del Redfern, Product Marketing Manager for EDAX.

"The Apollo Silicon Drift Detector (SDD) series utilizes the latest generation SDD chip technology and provides the ideal platform for EDS analysis. The series includes a range of collection efficiencies, energy resolutions and low-energy performance to meet all microanalysis demands," adds Redfern.

"The high count rate capability of the SDD, however, can pose a significant problem for the X-ray microanalyst and lead to pulse pile-up. Our new innovative digital pulse processor--DPP III--employs state-of-the-art pulse pile-up to provide a 'clean' spectrum for analysis as well as processing times capable of handling over 1,000,000 cps," stated Redfern.

"Our Genesis Apex system provides improvement in spectrum interpretation via the latest version of the market-leading Genesis 6 software, "notes Redfern. "With Genesis Apex, we are introducing a revolutionary EXpert ID routine that sets a new standard for peak identification."

"Employing a physics and advanced rules-based algorithm, EXpert ID provides accurate element identification in one easy step, including a novel background fitting routine. With EXpert ID, Genesis software is able to provide the materials characterization scientist with the ability to generate accurate quantitative analysis and a multitude of maps," continues Redfern.

"The solid foundations established by the Genesis Apex system provide results with the greatest confidence," he concludes.
