Wire Grid Polarizers achieve extinction ratios of 40,000:1.

August 25, 2008 - Available in substrates made from BaF, ZnSe, KRS-5, and Ge, IR Holographic Wire Grid Polarizers are manufactured using holographic technique that creates sub-micron wire grid spacing of 2,700 grooves/mm. Units polarize light from unpolarized IR laser sources and are also suitable for attenuating light from polarized sources. They are available in 25 mm diameter with 18 mm clear aperture and 5 mm ring thickness or 50 mm diameter with 34 mm clear aperture and 6 mm ring thickness.

Edmund OpticsŪ Introduces IR Holographic Wire Grid Polarizers

Holographic Manufacturing Technique Creates Fine Groove Spacing of 2700 grooves/mm

August 13, 2008, Barrington, NJ - Edmund OpticsŪ (EO), the premier provider of optical components and tools, introduces new IR Holographic Wire Grid Polarizers. These Holographic wire grid polarizers are manufactured using a unique holographic technique that creates sub-micron wire grid spacing of 2,700 grooves/mm. When compared to conventional wire grid methods, this holographic method creates a finer groove spacing, for excellent short wavelength performance.

Substrates of BaF, ZnSe, KRS-5 and Ge

Edmund Optics' IR Holographic Wire Grid Polarizers are available in substrates made from Barium Fluoride (BaF), Zinc Selenide (ZnSe), Thalium Bromoiodiode (KRS-5) and Geranium (Ge). Please note that special care must be taken when handling KRS-5, as it is a toxic material. Rubber or plastic gloves must be worn to avoid the risk of contamination.

High extinction ratios of greater than 40,000:1

These polarizers are designed to polarize light from unpolarized infrared laser sources and are also ideal for attenuating light from polarized sources. When two wire grid polarizers are used together, high extinction ratios of greater than 40,000:1 can be achieved. The polarizers feature high transmission out to a wavelength of 30 mm. To create a polarizer/attenuator system where 360-degree rotation is required, these polarizers can be mounted in the Edmund Optics 25.4 mm diameter or 50 mm diameter Metric Polarizer Mounts. For ease of use, the polarization axis of each polarizer is clearly marked by two white lines etched into the surface of its protective ring.

25 mm and 50 mm diameter sizes are available

IR Holographic Wire Grid Polarizers are available in a 25 mm diameter with a clear aperture of 18 mm and a ring thickness of 5 mm or in a 50 mm diameter with a clear aperture of 34 mm and a ring thickness of 6 mm. They are in-stock and available for immediate delivery.
