Right Angle DIN Connectors require minimal press-in force.

August 15, 2008 - Suited for daughter card applications, right angled female DIN 41612 connectors are available in type R, R/2, and R/3 variants. Utilizing eye-of-the-needle pressfit zone minimizes press-in force as well as stress on PCB. Press-in cover enables type R female connector to be pressed in with flat rock press-in tool, without damaging contacts. RoHS-compliant through hole reflow versions are built from material that is compatible with reflow soldering.

Enhanced Design Offers Significant Benefits to ERNI Family of Right Angled Female DIN Connectors

Reduced press-in-force diminishes stress on PCB

ADELBERG, GERMANY - July 23, 2008 - ERNI Electronics, the pioneer of DIN 41612/IEC 60602-3 connector technology, has redesigned its right angle female DIN connectors for daughter card applications. The fresh design approach delivers a number of key benefits relating to reliability and efficient assembly.

ERNI's latest family of right angled DIN 41612 connectors is available in type R, R/2 and R/3 variants. By using the "Eye of the Needle" pressfit zone, the press-in force is reduced by approximately 25 percent, resulting in less stress on the PCB and increased reliability. An Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) step during the manufacturing process ensures 100% controlled pin quality.

Regarding the mating face and the termination side, ERNI's new connectors are fully compatible to existing versions. The implementation in current series is possible without changing the layout.

A press-in cover used on every pressfit version enables the type R female connector to be pressed in with a cost effective flat rock press-in tool, without damaging the contacts.

All type R connectors are suitable for use with a simple coding mechanism that uses coding tabs. The RoHS compliant Through Hole Reflow (THR) versions are built from a high temperature resistant material that makes them capable for reflow soldering. Manufactured to the highest possible standards in Adelberg, Germany, ERNI's newly designed family of Right Angled Female DIN connectors is priced for a global marketplace with a price per piece of approx. $2.80.
