Spool Browse/System Manager runs SDSF REXX executables.
August 22, 2008 -
Working with z/OS JES2 and JES3, (E)JES v4 r6.0 provides compatible ISFCALLS REXX host command environment where users can run REXX execs written to exploit IBM SDSF REXX API on z/OS 1.2 or higher. Support allows users to run execs transparently, without sacrificing spool browse and system management interface. Use of CPU resources is eligible for redirection to zIIP processors, and native programmable APIs process unlimited number of objects with minimal virtual storage requirements.

(E)JES V4R6.0 Runs SDSF REXX Execs
LOS ANGELES, Aug. 12 -- Today Phoenix Software International announced the release of Version 4, Release 6.0 of its z/OS JES2 and JES3 interactive spool browse and system management product (E)JES. The new release will be generally available September 26, 2008.
(E)JES V4R6.0 provides a highly compatible ISFCALLS REXX host command environment: (E)JES customers can run REXX execs written to exploit IBM's SDSF REXX API (introduced in z/OS 1.9) on z/OS 1.2 and higher.
"We expect IBM, some ISVs, and even the open source and freeware communities, to develop code that exploits IBM's ISFCALLS interface," said Fred Hoschett, Phoenix Software President. "This new support allows (E)JES customers to run those execs transparently without sacrificing the robust spool browse and system management interface they depend on every day to run their business."
Mr. Hoschett added, "Phoenix continues to take advantage of z/OS enhancements to benefit our (E)JES customers. Last year we added exploitation of the new zIIP processors to (E)JES, making its use of CPU resources predominantly eligible for redirection to zIIP processors. This exploitation will now also include work being executed on behalf of the new ISFCALLS interface."
With this release, (E)JES also enhances its own native programmable APIs - - called from Assembler, COBOL, C, PL/I, and REXX -- to provide high- performance processing of a nearly unlimited number of objects with minimal virtual storage requirements.
Other enhancements to (E)JES include new tabular columns, support for mixed z/OS releases from a single set of (E)JES target libraries, and exploitation of JES3 Spool Data Set Browse introduced with z/OS 1.10. SDSB exploitation lets customers allocate JES3 spool data sets using (E)JES, and then process them with other programs that use QSAM to read files, such as REXX execs and IBM utilities.
