Radicom Introduces World's Smallest USB Dongle Modems Work with All Major Operating Systems

SAN JOSE, Calif. - August 4, 2008 - Radicom Research, Inc., a leading designer and manufacturer of dial-up and wireless modems for PC and Industrial Computers introduces its new compact USB dongle modems.

This USB dongle modem processes data using its own hardware and does not utilize any processing power of the host computer. Because it is a hardware modem, it can be easily adopted in non-x86 CPU and non-Windows OS based systems. The modem will operate with any system that has a USB CDC (Communication Device Class) driver. .

The V92HU-E2 dongle modem measures just 0.55"(W) x 0.75"(H) x 2.50"(D), weighing less than 1 oz., it can be easily tucked away in the smallest of notebook cases and enables consumers to easily connect their notebook and desktop computers to the Internet over standard telephone lines. The USB dongle modem contains a hardware controller, a data pump and an International DAA (Data Access Arrangement). The International DAA in these modems does not draw power from the telephone line, but only draws low power from the USB port. They thus operate reliably when line current is low due to long lines or poor line conditions.

The modem provides 300 bps to 56k bps data rates, 14.4k bps fax, on line voice playback and recording, and a hotswappable USB interface. Other features include Caller ID, Modem-on-Hold, Caller waiting detection, Data/Fax/Voice call discrimination, Quick connect, and Extension pickup detection. Modem customization is available through patch code that can be stored in modems on board memory.

The V92HU-E2 is designed to meet global Safety and Electromagnetic Compatibility (EMC) standards including IEC60950-1 and CE Marking. It meets RoHS compliance directives, and conforms to Telecom standards required for immediate shipping to US, Canada, Europe and other major industrial countries around the world.

Compact USB Hardware Modems

"Radicom engineers designed these USB hardware modems at the request of OEM designers who wanted compact USB hardware modems that would work with Linux, Windows and Mac operating systems and have all the features found in larger packages," said Alex Tsau, Vice President of Operations for Radicom Research. "Their small size and low power requirements, quick connect and rapid dial-up make them particularly well suited for home security, home care and remote control applications.

Summary of Features:

Works with Linux, Windows and Mac OS
RoHS complaint
Fax / voice playback and recording
Hot swappable USB 1.1, 2.0 interface
Low power consumption from USB, not line current
AT command set support

Microsoft CDC compliant

Linux CDC-ACM compliant

Supports V.92 analog data

Supports V.44 data compression

Supports remote telephone answering machines (TAM)
Up to 56 kbps data speeds downstream
Generates and detects DTMF tones in voice mode
Line-in use, remote hang-up, extension pick-up detection
Automatic format and speed sensing

Caller ID type I and II for select countries

Line-in-use and connection detection features allow the modem to share a phone line with other equipment, eliminating the cost of a dedicated phone line, allowing field personnel to check status and receive reports on remote facilities and respond to abnormal conditions immediately.

Agency approvals: Transferable FCC68, FCC15B, CS03 and CTR21 certifications. IEC60950-1, EN55022 and EN55024 compliant, with CE Marking.

Applications

Its small size, low power consumption, compliance with international standards, makes Radicom's USB hardware modems suitable for Notebooks, PC desktop computers and Industrial Small Board Computers (SMC) using either Linux or Windows O/S that need to have reliable dial-up connectivity.
