Comprised of 4-port, 4-lane and 3-port, 3-lane PCIe® packet switches as well as one fully reversible PCIe-to-PCI bridge, SlimLine(TM) series enables PCI Express® connectivity in space- and power-sensitive volume applications. ROHS-compliant products come in 14 x 14 mm, 128-pin LQFP and employ PowerSave technology, which allows selectable power operation states. PCI-SIG DEVELOPERS CONFERENCE, San Jose, CA, 2008-06-09 - Pericom Semiconductor Corporation (NASDAQ: PSEM), a worldwide preferred supplier of PCI Express® connectivity, signal integrity and timing technology, today announced the industry's first PCI Express (PCIe®) packet switch product family designed for power, size and value-sensitive applications, such as volume motherboard, wireless access points, docking stations, SOHO printers, digital TV, video surveillance, graphics and mobile applications. Pericom will display these new devices at the PCI-SIG® Developer's Conference, Santa Clara Convention Center, booth #6, Santa Clara, Calif., June 11-12, 2008.
"The market SAM for volume platforms across the computing, consumer, and networking market segments number in the hundreds of millions and are growing," said Jag Bolaria, senior analyst at semiconductor market research firm The Linley Group. "Most of these platforms already contain a PCI Express system interconnect. Demand for increased features and functionality will drive the need for PCIe switches and bridges and Pericom is well positioned to serve this new requirement with its small form factor, low power PCIe products."
The SlimLine(TM) product family offers two PCIe packet switches and one PCIe-to-PCI bridge. Engineered with PowerSave, the latest in green power-saving technology from Pericom, the design saves up to 30% of power in normal operating mode by allowing selectable power operation states. The proliferation of mobile platforms places greater demands on power and size; as form factors shrink, so does battery space and capability.
PowerSave combines with low-cost, space-effective LQFP packaging to deliver to markets and applications where space, power and cost previously posed significant barriers for conventional PCIe products.
