Pregis Launches Astro-Bubble® Green, First Air-Cushioning Bubble with up to 40% Recycled Content
Deerfield, Ill., July 15, 2008-Pregis Corp. is launching Astro-Bubble® Green, the first-ever air-cushioning bubble to contain up to 40% recycled content, but no less than 30% (depending on post- and pre-consumer waste material supply availability).
Astro-Bubble® Green has been engineered to incorporate high levels of post-consumer recycled (PCR) content without losing product integrity (such as air retention within the bubble). The air cushioning bubble is made from up to 20% post-consumer recycled (PCR) content and up to 20% industrial scrap. Additionally, an organic green dye is used to create a transparent visual cue that the product is an environmentally- conscious alternative.
"At Pregis, we are committed to providing our customers with environmentally-responsible products and practices. We believe that recycling post-consumer waste is a crucial step in achieving sustainability goals and we have worked hard toward securing a supply source for this product line," says Josephine Lee, marketing director, Pregis Protective Packaging North America.
Ideally suited as a surface cover and void-fill, the new air-cushioning bubble product line protects fragile items via both coextruded, linear-low density polyethylene (LLDPE)/nylon and monolayer LLDPE alternatives. Additionally, four different bubble sizes (ranging from 1/8- to ˝-inch diameter) are available in both coex and monolayer to address a wide variety of packing requirements. (Both lines are also available in standard and economy grades, depending on the desired thickness of the bubble material.)
Pregis' Astro-Bubble® Green air cushioning offers a smart, lightweight, clean and flexible option to other protective packaging alternatives. Market segments targeted by the product line include: aerospace, agriculture/produce, automotive, doors/building material, electronics/appliances, food, fulfillment/mail order, furniture, glass/china, industrial equipment/supplies, jewelry, medical, military/government, moving and storage, pharmaceuticals, publishing, retail and transportation.
