SMD LEDs feature thermal resistance down to 290 K/W.
July 15, 2008 -
Housed in thermally enhanced PLCC 4 package, VLMx32 Series features power dissipation up to 200 mW, enabling drive currents up to 70 mA. LEDs provide luminous intensity of 1,400-2,850 mcd with dominant wavelengths of 610-621 nm for amber devices and 585-594 nm for yellow models. All feature 60° angle of half-intensity and luminous intensity per packing unit of less than 1.6. RoHS-compliant devices are suited for traffic signals, automotive lighting, indicators, and backlighting.
Vishays New Power SMD LEDs in Thermally Enhanced PLCC-4 Package Feature Thermal Resistance Down To 290 K/W, with High Current Drives to 70 mA for Improved Light Output
New Series Offers Twice the Light Output of Vishay SMD LEDs in PLCC-2 Package
MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - June 20, 2008 - Vishay Intertechnology Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today announced the release of a new series of power surface-mount LEDs that deliver a significant advance in heat dissipation and brightness. The new VLMx32.. devices feature a PLCC 4 package with a lead frame optimized to provide very low thermal resistance down to 290 K/W and power dissipation up to 200 mW, which in turn enables high drive currents up to 70 mA for twice the brightness of Vishays high-intensity SMD LEDs in the PLCC 2 package. For automotive applications, the VLMx32.. devices are automotive qualified per AEC-Q101.
Available in amber and yellow, these new high-intensity LEDs are intended for traffic signals and signs; interior and exterior lighting; automotive interior and exterior lighting; indicators and backlighting in audio and video, telecommunications, and office equipment; and flat backlighting for illuminated advertising, LCDs, switches, and symbols in general use.
Built on AllnGaP technology (ESD class 2), the LEDs released today provide a high luminous intensity of 1400 mcd to 2850 mcd, with dominant wavelengths of 610 nm to 621 nm for the amber devices, and 585 nm to 594 nm for the yellow devices. All VLMx32.. LEDs feature a 60° angle of half-intensity and a luminous intensity per packing unit of less than 1.6, and are categorized, per packing unit, for luminous intensity, color, and forward voltage, so they provide even color and brightness.
The lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant devices are available in 8 mm tape and are suitable for lead-free reflow soldering according to CECC 00802 and J-STD-020B, and preconditioning according to JEDEC Level 2a. Samples and production quantities of the new VLMx32.. power LEDs are available now with lead times of four weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery in 100,000-piece quantities starts at $10.00 per 100 pieces.
