GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms Announces Intel Quad-Core LV Xeon V7812 6U VMEbus Single Board Computer

Takes advantage of latest Intel® chipset for superior on-board bandwidth for demanding commercial, industrial and military applications

o Intel 5100 MCH chipset

o Up to 12 Mbytes L2 Cache

o ATI Radeon(TM) graphics processing

o 2eSST VME with optionally configurable VXS (VITA 41.3 capability)

CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA July 8, 2008 GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms today announced the immediate availability of the V7812 dual slot single board computer (SBC), responding to customer needs for significantly increased on-board bandwidth and advanced graphics capabilities in 6U VMEbus environments. The new SBC utilizes the latest Intel chipset delivering the unmatched performance and flexibility customers demand.

The V7812 provides an ideal computing platform for demanding commercial, industrial and military applications that require the quad-core processing performance of the Intel® Xeon® processor and the advanced capabilities of the ATI Radeon(TM) M72 graphics module. Such applications would typically include data encryption, flight simulation control and video compression.

"We see many customers who are committed to the VMEbus architecture, and whose plans foresee an increasing need for processor performance, on-board bandwidth, superior connectivity and advanced graphics capabilities," said Wayne McGee, Global Director of Commercial SBC and Server Product Line Management at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms. "The V7812 is our response to those needs, using the latest silicon from Intel to deliver server class performance with the flexibility of VXS."

The first SBC to be designed by the company to take advantage of the capabilities of the newly-announced Intel® 5100 MCH (Memory Controller Hub) chipset, the V7812 offers either an Intel Dual- or Quad-Core LV Xeon processor with 4 Mbytes of L2 cache to deliver outstanding performance. Superior graphics capability is provided via the inclusion of the ATI Radeon M72 graphics module which takes advantage of the latest 65nm fabrication process to deliver high performance with low power consumption. The M72 features AMD's unique Unified Shader Architecture which brings advanced vertex and pixel processing to embedded graphics applications.

The V7812 can be optionally ordered as a VXS board, providing an additional Gigabit Ethernet connection routed to P0 in addition to the standard dual Gigabit Ethernet connections on the front panel.

The Intel 5100 MCH provides six on-board PCI Express connections: one each to two Gigabit Ethernet controllers; one to the Tundra Tsi148 VME bridge; one to the two PMC PCI-X expansion sites; one to the ATI GPU; and one to the SAS (serial-attached SCSI) controller. The result is on-board bandwidth significantly in advance of the V7812's predecessor.

The M72 graphics module features the ATI Radeon E2400 processor which delivers first class HD (high definition) decoding, display quality and graphics horsepower. Dual graphics output is provided via one VGA connector and one DVI-I connector.

Support is provided for up to 4 GBytes of DDR2 ECC SDRAM, six USB 2.0 ports, and four Gigabit Ethernet ports (two via optional VXS). An optional 120 GBytes 2.5" SATA disk or 8 Gbyte SSD SATA drive can optionally be configured on the board. Operating system support is provided for Windows® XP and Linux®.
