GF Piping Systems New Metal Magmeter Configuration Expands Application Range and Versatility

TUSTIN, Calif. - June 26, 2008 - GF Piping Systems has added to its proven Signet 2552 Metal Magmeter family with the new Model 2552-3. The Signet Metal Magmeter is a rugged insertion flow sensor that permits hot-tap access to the pipe stream. This allows quick and easy installation or maintenance without system shut-down, significantly reducing overall costs. The robust design and durable metal housing provide accurate flow sensing in extremely harsh environments.

The lightweight extended configuration of the new 2552-3 Magmeter can be mounted into a broad range of pipe sizes from 2 to 102 inches (DN50 to DN2550). The patented design offers outstanding performance characteristics including a wide dynamic flow range of 0.15 to 33 ft/s (0.05 to 10 m/s) with repeatability of ±0.5% of reading at 25°C. Superior linearity of ±1% reading provides excellent performance across a wide range of applications. Corrosion-resistant materials include 316 Stainless Steel, PVDF and FPM to ensure long service reliability and minimal maintenance.

Integral to the unit's innovative design is its adjustable capabilities, which permit hot-tap installation using a ball valve. The low friction threaded steel hub allows installation or service to be completed without any additional tools or disrupting the pipe flow, and retrofitting is easily accomplished. The sensor's short insertion depth minimizes pressure drop, conserving energy for pump operation. For special underwater applications, a submersible waterproof cable is available for limited periods.

The magmeter insertion technology features no moving parts to wear or foul and high accuracy sensing without the excessive costs associated with full bore magnetic flow units. With no moving parts to wear, the unit accurately measures flow in fluids containing a high content of particles, solids and fibers, making it an excellent choice for applications with dirty fluids. The magmeter's economical price point makes it an ideal choice for upgrading or replacing maintenance-prone mechanical flow sensors. Typical applications include municipal water distribution, water inlets to process plants, surface, ground and ocean water, chemical processing, mining applications, water and wastewater monitoring, and industrial water distribution.

Offering maximum application versatility, the 2552-3 is available in three signal output options including frequency, digital, or 4-20mA. These options allow customers the flexibility to connect with other Signet instrumentation via the frequency or digital (S3L) signal output, or use the blind transmitter (4 to 20 mA output) for long distance signal transmission application requirements. Basic diagnostic capabilities allow the user to optimize the meter for each application. The 4 to 20mA output is factory spanned and can be modified in the field using the PC compatible accessory set-up tool, model 3-0250.

The Metal Magmeter family offers both empty pipe detection and bi-directional flow capabilities. These sophisticated features enable the unit to meet a wide range of application needs. An empty pipe is detected when the electrodes are not completely wetted and indicates the condition with a zero flow signal output. This feature eliminates the need to perform special plumbing to keep the sensor wet at all times, or the need to re-pipe or re-mount the sensor in another location when fluid is emptied from the pipe - both valuable time savers in terms of labor and cost.

For applications where bi-directional flow measurement is required, the unit's capability to measure flow in both directions becomes particularly advantageous. Frequency output is bi-directional, while the 4 to 20mA output can be set for single or bi-directional flow.

GF Piping Systems supplies a full range of plastic pipe, fittings, tubing, valves, actuators, rotameters, fusion machines, secondary containment, tank linings, heat exchangers, custom products, and sensors and instrumentation for industrial process control.
