Bed and Chair Occupancy Sensors monitor patient safety.

June 26, 2008 - Featuring gold-plated steel contacts for corrosion resistance, Bed and Chair Occupancy Sensors can be placed under mattress or wheelchair cushion to inform caregiver in event of accident. Units are sealed in vinyl cover over PVC base plate with standard activation weight of 3-5 lb, but can be customized to user's requirements. Connected in series or parallel, dual BOS switches monitor 2 contact points in bed, detecting if patient is lying down or sitting up and minimizing risk of false alarms.

Enhanced Bed Occupancy Sensors Introduced to Recora Inc Product Line

June 17, 2008 - Featuring custom sensitivity and gold plating, Bed Occupancy Sensors (BOS) and Chair Occupancy Sensors (COS) are reliable and flexible tools to monitor patient safety in hospitals, assisted living homes, or as extra support for individuals at home. BOS and COS switches are designed for low voltage operation, Class II N.E.C. circuit. The sensors can be placed under the mattress or wheelchair cushion of a patient in order to inform the caregiver in the event of an accident. When the sensors are attached to a telecare system, they are also capable of automatically turning on a light or signaling the caregiver if a patient stays out of bed for longer than the allotted time.

Recora Inc Introduces Enhanced Bed and Chair Occupancy Sensors

Recora Inc promotes new Bed and Chair Occupancy Sensors that have custom sensitivity, gold plating

Batavia, IL, June 17, 2008 - Recora introduces new varieties of Bed Occupancy Sensor (BOS) and Chair Occupancy Sensor (COS) switches that are now available with custom activation, providing more flexibility for the user. Also, Recora now offers gold plated steel contacts, as well as the standard stainless steel. Although the stainless steel contacts are highly effective, the gold acts as a shield against corrosion, increasing the life of the sensor. These water resistant sensors can be used to monitor patient safety in hospitals, assisted living homes, or as extra support for individuals at home. The Chair Occupancy Sensor is a new addition to the Recora presence detection product line. When connected to an appropriate telecare system, this sensor is placed under the cushion of a wheelchair in order to increase the patient's safety while mobile. The standard Recora BOS switch is 2 inches by 27 inches and the standard COS switch is 11 inches by 11 inches, but can be customized to suit user needs. The sensors are designed for low voltage operation on a Class II N.E.C. circuit, making them more cost-effective and simplifying the product.

They are sealed in a durable vinyl cover over a PVC base plate. Contacts are single pole, single throw, normally open, momentary contact type. The sensors have a standard activation weight of 3 to 5 pounds, but can be customized to user's requirements. The patient's weight keeps the circuit closed but when the weight is removed, the contacts are opened and an alarm is sent to the caregiver.

For greater versatility, Recora now offers dual BOS switches connected in series or parallel. Unlike single sensors, a dual BOS switch in series can monitor two contact points in bed. This minimizes the risk of false alarms. Dual BOS switches in parallel can detect whether a patient is lying down or sitting up. In addition, Recora is able to attach any type of cable termination. This allows hospitals and assisted living homes to connect the sensors to any telecare system. The sensors are also capable of automatically turning on a light or signaling the caregiver if a patient stays out of bed for more than the allotted time in conjunction with a properly programmed telecare system.
