FTTN DSLAMs maximize VDSL2 performance.

June 27, 2008 - Available with 24-192 ports, Total Access 1100 Series FTTN (Fiber to the Node) DSLAMs (Digital Subscriber Line Access Multiplexers) allow service providers to realize ultra-broadband speeds over existing copper infrastructure. Products eliminate need for cabinet enclosures, heat exchangers, and site construction. This economically secures broadband connection to home and enables delivery of video, voice, and data services while reducing loop lengths.

ADTRAN Adds VDSL2 to Market LeadingTotal Access 1100 Series FTTN DSLAMs

Total Access 1100 Series DSLAMs Allow Service Providers to Cost-Effectively Shorten the Copper Loop

HUNTSVILLE, Ala.--(June 17, 2008)--ADTRAN, Inc. (NASDAQ: ADTN), a leading supplier of next-generation solutions, today announced the addition of VDSL2 to its market-leading Total Access 1100 Series Fiber to the Node (FTTN) DSLAMs. These FTTN DSLAMs allow service providers to realize ultra-broadband speeds over their existing copper infrastructure, economically securing the broadband connection to the home and enabling the delivery of advanced communications and entertainment services.

ADTRAN's Total Access 1100 Series broadband access systems provide an innovative approach to the successful deployment of FTTN architectures. Recognizing the technological and economic barriers of traditional cabinet-based DSL deployments, ADTRAN designed the Total Access 1100 Series FTTN DSLAMs to eliminate the need for expensive cabinet enclosures, heat exchangers and site construction, which account for a large portion of the total cost of deployment. In fact, in many cases, Total Access 1100 Series DSLAMs can deliver FTTN-based services for 50 to 75 percent less than traditional cabinet-based systems. This allows carriers to more economically utilize the capacity of the existing copper network over the last mile.

"ADTRAN's Total Access 1100 Series DSLAM's are widely deployed throughout our network", said Michael Golob, vice president of Engineering and Technology, Frontier. "Today, these platforms provide a cost-effective, rapid-response solution that addresses our customer's demand for high bandwidth services. With the addition of VDSL2, these products will allow us to further enhance our premium Internet services, allowing even more customers to take advantage of higher-speed broadband."

"ADTRAN's Total Access 1100 Series FTTN DSLAMs are the market leader for sealed solutions based on their innovative design and cost-effective performance," said Teresa Mastrangelo, principal analyst, Broadband Trends. "VDSL2 further strengthens ADTRAN's portfolio by allowing carriers to deploy fiber-like speeds over their existing copper infrastructure, greatly reducing their per subscriber costs."

"Research has shown that more than 70 percent of the cost to convert an existing copper access customer to fiber lies in the last 3,000 ft. between the node and the customer premises," said Mike Martin, director, product management, ADTRAN Carrier Networks Division. "Fiber to the Node is a way for carriers to offer ultra-broadband speeds by shortening their copper loop plant. Historically, this has meant the deployment of expensive cabinet- based DSLAMs. However, our innovative Total Access 1100 Series DSLAMs eliminate many of these deployment costs, enabling the cost-effective delivery of ultra-broadband services."

Total Access 1100 Series VDSL2 DSLAMS are available from 24 to 192 ports. These DSLAMs are optimized for the delivery of ultra-broadband video, voice and data services. This innovative design allows carriers to cost-effectively reduce loop lengths to maximize the performance of VDSL2, efficiently delivering fiber like speeds across existing copper infrastructure.
