Wireless Solution conserves energy in HVAC environments.

June 24, 2008 - Retrofitting to existing infrastructures, MeshScapeŽ 6424 Wi-Stat II wirelessly integrates multiple sensors and control actuators to optimize energy consumption and comfort within each zone in commercial and industrial HVAC environments. It utilizes 802.15.4 unlicensed radio band and operates bi-directionally within wireless sensor network for intelligent control action. Connecting to existing HVAC wires for power, system replaces existing analog, digital, and/or pneumatic thermostat.

Millennial Net Announces Intelligent Energy Conservation Solution for Commercial and Industrial HVAC Environments

MeshScape(R) 6424 Wi-Stat II wirelessly integrates multiple sensors and control actuators to optimize energy consumption and comfort within each zone, and easily retrofits to existing HVAC infrastructures

BURLINGTON, Mass., June 9 -- Millennial Net expands its revolutionary wireless energy management solutions at Sensors-2008 EXPO*. "With energy costs rising uncontrollably, building owners have a low cost, non-invasive retrofit need for immediate energy monitoring and conservation measures, to optimize energy consumption and comfort within each zone across multiple sites," said Martin Hanssmann, CEO Millennial Net.

The MeshScape(R) Wi-Stat II is intended for use in commercial, industrial and municipal multi-zone HVAC environments to enable greater energy-policy compliance, multi-site remote monitoring and control, and usage analysis. Complex buildings environments have a common need for regular and ad-hoc environmental occupancy patterns. Energy conservation is achieved by aligning HVAC operation with set points that closely match occupancy comfort requirements and can incorporate multiple external sensors and control actuators to integrate other factors such as external temperature and peak energy demand. Such users will find the Wi-Stat II superior to programmable and network thermostat alternatives, which can be complex to deploy, maintain and adjust to actual HVAC demands.

Designed for easy retrofit to existing HVAC infrastructure (i.e. single, multi-stage or heat-pump) without disruptive and expensive rewiring, the Wi-Stat II replaces an existing analog, digital and/or pneumatic thermostat. It connects to existing HVAC wires to harvest power. This second generation product joins a growing family of devices based on Millennial Net's MeshScape wireless sensor network technology, utilizing standard 802.15.4 unlicensed radio band, and introduces three major innovations to reduce the cost and disruption of existing facilities requiring immediate energy conservation. The Wi-Stat II:

1. Operates bi-directionally within the wireless sensor network to take intelligent control action. This provides local autonomy and robustness from disruptions in external communications.

2. Is the only thermostat replacement to provide 802.15.4 wireless communications for buildings with pneumatic interfaces for HVAC controls, and provides a migration path to future elimination of pneumatics, if desired.

3. Is available in three options: 1) pre-integrated with a Honeywell 5130 thermostat as the local user interface; 2) ready to be integrated to a user-supplied conventional thermostat; 3) to be operated without an integrated thermostat.

In commercial, industrial and municipal environments the people who pay the energy bills and the people occupying buildings can be at odds. Reliable environmental zone comfort that closely satisfies occupant needs leads to greater energy policy compliance. With the Wi-Stat II, energy economy is improved through remote monitoring, set point management, and usage analysis. Office workers, retail personnel, school teachers, municipal employees and other such building occupants benefit from local thermostat control, including the ability to temporarily override a scheduled set back temperature set point when necessary. However, this local action is constrained by energy policies to prevent wasting energy. The Wi-Stat II provides an affordable, non-invasive solution for multi-zone buildings and multi-site portfolios, to the dramatically improve energy conservation.
