Exhibiting efficiency up to 85% at light loading and 90% at heavy loading, MBI6650 integrates hysteretic Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) control technique. This 1.2 A constant current buck converter operates under input range of 9-30 V and combines adaptive output switching frequency with audio frequency skip. In addition to thermal protection with temperature limit of 140°C, IC incorporates UVLO, open-circuit, and short-circuit protection functions.
Macroblock New PFM DC/DC Converter Brings High Efficiency for LED Lighting

Macroblock reveals its new discovery on LED technology-Hysteretic Pulse Frequency Modulation (PFM) control scheme, which brings high efficiency of power at wide range of loading condition. Comparing to traditional PWM method, the power efficiency reaches 60% at light loading, the Hysteretic PFM control scheme not only strengthens system stability, but upgrades the efficiency up to 85% at light loading and 90% at heavy loading. By combining the features of adaptive output switching frequency and audio frequency skip, both higher current and frequency can be reached as well as avoiding the noise interruption when the MBI6650 is activated. The internal high-side current limit of the control scheme also permits customers to choose a smaller size resistor with lower power consumption, which bring space-saving and more cost effectiveness.
With configured only 4 extra SMD components, the MBI6650 has even smaller PCB layout area and brings more cost effectiveness to customers. It also can operate under an input voltage range of 9Vto 30V for high power LED applications. Furthermore, MBI6650's unique thermal protection function with the temperature limit of 140°C prevents the drivers from overheating. Besides, UVLO, open-circuit and short-circuit protection functions are well-equipped to ensure the safety of the lighting system. MBI6650 is an effective and economic choice for decorative lighting such as MR16, high power LED lighting and constant current source.
