EDS X-Ray Microanalysis System produces results in seconds.

June 19, 2008 - Equipped with pulse processor, spectral imaging capability, and software suite, NORAN System 7 accelerates microanalysis in electron microscopy laboratories. It automatically analyzes X-ray spectrum and images during DAQ to obtain correct identification of material. Also included, UltraDry silicon drift detectors determine detection of X-rays down to Beryllium. Software uses peak shape fitting algorithms to identify elements in sample while enabling analysis and production of spectra.

Thermo Fisher Scientific Launches New EDS X-Ray Microanalysis System: the Perfect Balance of Analyzer, Detector and Software

MADISON, WI, (June 06, 2008) - Thermo Fisher Scientific Inc., the world leader in serving science, has unveiled the Thermo Scientific NORAN System 7, the most advanced EDS X-ray microanalysis system available. Equipped with a high throughput pulse processor, spectral imaging capability and a sophisticated software suite, NORAN System 7 is the fastest complete EDS X-ray microanalysis system available on the market. The new system produces accurate and dependable results in just a few seconds, accelerating the microanalysis capabilities of modern electron microscopy laboratories.

The Thermo Scientific NORAN System 7 incorporates a powerful new analyzer designed to achieve fast and precise acquisition of data. The system automatically analyzes both the x-ray spectrum and images during data acquisition to obtain the correct identification of the material under analysis. This exclusive "analysis during the acquisition" technique produces results more than ten times faster than other systems.

This comprehensive system also features the latest in large area UltraDry silicon drift detectors for the detection of X-rays down to Beryllium. The high-resolution UltraDry detector ensures optimum collection efficiency and throughput. The Thermo Scientific NORAN System 7 software uses advanced peak shape fitting algorithms to accurately identify the elements in the sample while also enabling high-speed analysis and the production of high quality spectra.

NORAN System 7 is the only EDS X-ray microanalysis system to operate on a Direct-to-Phase software suite, which computes and displays known phases or compounds while data are still being collected. Direct-to-Phase software not only presents elemental data in maps and spectra, but it develops an information-rich picture of the sample's composition more than ten times faster than less advanced microanalysis systems. Once the acquisition and analysis are complete, a single button generates a sample report in several popular file formats.

"NORAN System 7 is a complete high-resolution, high-throughput EDS X-ray microanalysis system that enables ultra fast sample processing from routine analysis to advanced research applications," comments Mike Jost, vice president and general manager for molecular spectroscopy, microanalysis and surface analysis group at Thermo Fisher Scientific. "This next generation system produces the right answer in the least amount of time while allowing for complete confidence in the results."

For more information about the new Thermo Scientific NORAN System 7 EDS X-ray microanalysis system, please visit booth #1307 at SEMICON West 2008, San Francisco, California, July 15-17, or booth #834 at Microscopy and Microanalysis 2008, Albuquerque, New Mexico, August 3-7.
