New Kellenberger Kel-Vita Universal Grinding Machine at IMTS '08

ELMIRA, NEW YORK: Kellenberger, a member of The Hardinge Group, is introducing at IMTS the Kel-Vita . . . a cost-effective universal ID/OD grinding machine that meets the diversity of customer's needs and workpieces up to a length of 1000mm. The Kel-Vita features numerous wheelhead configurations, low friction linear rails and a newly-developed CNC control. This new addition to Kellenberger's expanding line of high-precision grinding machines will be demonstrated in Hardinge booth number A-8032.

The Kel-Vita is offered in three models: Kel-Vita 600, Kel-Vita 800 and Kel-Vita 1000 with the number representing the between-centers capacity in millimeters. Center height is 175mm for all machines. The selection from eight (8) different grinding wheelhead types provides flexibility for the customer to design their specific machine configuration. UR and URS wheelheads feature a unique swiveling design with two external (and one internal) grinding wheels. It's capable of performing multiple processes, including external diameters, opposed faces, bores, tapers, polygons, tapered non-rounds and thread grinding-all in a single chucking. Other wheelhead configurations are offered: OD only (R) and OD and face (RS). Grinding wheels up to 500mm OD can be used.

The combination of low friction X-axis guideways and wear resistant Z-axis linear guide rails provides optimal precision, rigidity and cushioning qualities. The extremely stiff linear bearing in the X axis forms the basis for high performance and dynamics, thus affording precision in circular and non-circular grinding. Rapid traverse rates are 20 m/min on the longitudinal axis (Z) and 10 m/min on the in-feed axis (X).

The swivel-mount GE-Fanuc 310is-A control with Windows CE provides easy setup, programming and tool management. ISO programming is supported with icons and help images. The control includes graphic programming capabilities, plus it supports cylinders, radii, chamfers, cones, tapers, non-round OD's and ID's (elliptical profiles), contours and outlines.
