New Multitasking GS-Series Turning Centers at IMTS '08

ELMIRA, NEW YORK: The Hardinge Group is introducing the newest members of GS-Series turning centers - - the GS 200 MSY and GS 250 MSY Performance multitasking turning centers - - in booth #8032. Positioned in the middle of the Hardinge turning portfolio (above the Standard SV-Series and below the High-Performance RS-Series), these machines offer expanded levels of functionality to address complex parts resulting in increased throughput and reduced cycle time in a single setup.

These rigid multi-axis machines include powerful dual wound spindle motors featuring 30hp (22kW) on the main spindle and 20hp (15kW) on the sub spindle, 10hp (7.5kW) live tooling with C-axis, Y-axis, and spindle orient as standard equipment for complex multitasking operations. Both the main and sub spindles feature integral wraparound high torque motors designed for optimum thermal stability. An oil jacket around both main and sub spindles maintains accurate temperature control through the use of the standard chiller unit providing minimal thermal growth and consistent machining accuracies.

The Hardinge GS MSY machines feature a robust 30-degree one-piece cast iron slant bed base, heavy-duty linear roller guideways, and heavy-duty fixed pre-tensioned double-nut ballscrews to support the toughest of machining applications. Other standard performance-enhancing features include: spindle speeds up to 4,500-rpm, spindle torque up to 518ft-lbs (700Nm), 8" (200mm) or 10" (250mm) 3-jaw chuck, bar capacity up to 3.07" (78mm), 12-station universal VDI 40 top plate, 50-psi (3.5-bar) through-tool and headwall coolant, chip conveyor interface, and a swing-out Fanuc 18i control with Manual Guide i shop floor programming to name a few.

"The all-new multitasking GS 200 MSY and GS 250 MSY machines offer Hardinge quality and performance to users who need more functionality in a performance level machine at an excellent price" states Jeff Ervay, Product Manager, Turning. "Like all Hardinge turning centers, the GS-Series reflects Hardinge's commitment to quality and performance without compromise."
