In addition to supporting Aggregation and Tap modes in same chassis, iTap 10 GigaBit Port Aggregator offers other features such as timestamping and packet slicing. Aggregation mode enables network access device users to combine both sides of link's full-duplex traffic into one stream and then send identical copies of stream to two 10 Gigabit monitoring tools. Tap mode copies traffic moving in each direction on network link to separate monitor ports.

Net Optics Introduces Monitoring Access Solution for 10 GigaBit Networks
iTap 10 GigaBit Port Aggregator offers a variety of new data capture functionality
SANTA CLARA, Calif., June 3 -- Net Optics, Inc. today announced that its new iTap 10 GigaBit Port Aggregator will be released for general availability on June 16, 2008. This new network access device supports both Aggregation and Tap modes in the same chassis for the first time. Modes are selectable per customer requirements and traffic loads.
New application roll-outs, network configuration changes, and multi-protocol environments often need data to be captured to multiple monitoring tools at the same time. Aggregation mode enables customers to efficiently combine both sides of a link's full-duplex traffic into a single stream, and then send identical copies of the stream to two 10 Gigabit monitoring tools.
Tap mode, on the other hand, copies the traffic moving in each direction on a network link to separate monitor ports, ensuring that customers with high traffic loads on 10 GigaBit networks can take full advantage of one dedicated monitoring tool.
Other new features, selectable via CLI or remote management interfaces, include timestamping, which enables monitoring tools to discern precisely when each packet was received -- an essential piece of information for forensic analysis. Also available is packet slicing, which can be used to copy only header information to the monitoring tools.
Dennis Carpio, Director of Product Innovation at Net Optics, commented, "Our new iTap includes functionality that most customers would only expect in very high-end monitoring solutions. These intelligent features take Tap technology to a new level."
The iTap 10 GigaBit Port Aggregator is a family of products that includes models for SR, LR, and ER links. Combined with other Net Optics products, these 100 percent passive Port Aggregator Taps create a versatile monitoring access platform (MAP) for improved visibility and security-threat management across the entire network.
