Shop Floor Data Collection Computers Now Available with Choice of Operating Systems

May 16, 2008, Tucson, Arizona. Intelligent Instrumentation announces the release of a new Operating System and other improvements on their LANpoint® industrial data collection computers. The LANpoint PLUS, LANpoint TIME, LANpoint CE.NET, and LANpoint 7 computers now run either Microsoft Windows CE.NET version 4.2 or Windows CE version 5.0 operating systems. The new operating system choice improves programmability, database accessibility, and WiFi communications in the entire Intelligent Instrumentation LANpoint data collection product line. Windows CE, whether version 4.2 or 5.0, features the familiar Windows WIN32 API environment allowing developers the convenience of using their existing desktop development skills with Microsoft's development tools for creating custom managed-code solutions in Visual Basic.NET, Visual C#.NET and eMbedded Visual C++. Development tools that can be utilized now include Visual Studio.NET 2003, Visual Studio.NET 2005, and Visual Studio.NET 2008.

These rugged WiFi Ethernet IEEE802.11b/g LANpoint AutoID computers have no moving parts that require maintenance and wear out. Their compact NEMA 12 (IP54) and NEMA 4 (IP66) cases keep out water and dust, allowing for installation in environmentally harsh conditions, making economical use of expensive workspace. They have onboard non-volatile storage expandable to 1GB or more, and include the industrial features, connectivity and scalability demanded by frontline users and IT professionals alike. Web-enabled system administration tools, a wide range of software programmability, and a full selection of installation, mounting and AutoID add-on accessories and options make for unparalleled ease of implementation and system management.

Standard networking and utility software includes TCP/IP and SNMP. Remote network management is provided by WebDevice, Intelligent Instrumentation's Web-server application that comes loaded on each LANpoint. In addition, all popular terminal emulation interfaces are available - VT, HP, IBM5250, and IBM3270.

Standard features include integral full-QWERTY keyboards with large keys yet a small installation footprint, high quality backlit LCD displays, and up to three RS-232 ports that can be used for standard serial I/O such as barcode scanners, scales, and calipers, and as outputs to printers. The PS/2 connector allows use of wedge readers as well as external keyboards. There is even the thoughtful addition of a connector providing 3.3V, 5V and 12V power for 2D laser scanners and other AutoID devices. A full line of accessories and options is available, from AutoID devices to battery backup packs and wiring installation kits. Standard and optional digital I/O provides eight opto-isolated digital inputs and up to eight digital outputs. Intelligent Instrumentation provides everything necessary to get the LANpoint terminals installed and running quickly, ensuring a rapid return on investment (ROI).

LANpoint computers provide economical real-time data collection that enhances productivity in demanding manufacturing and supply chain applications such as Shop Floor Control, Warehousing, ERP/WMS/MES front-end systems, Work-in-Process, Inventory Control, Shipping and Receiving, Production and Labor Reporting, and Time and Attendance.

The LANpoint computers are available now. U.S. single unit pricing ranges from $1495 to approximately $3000 for stationary/fixed-mount models and from $2350 to approximately $3975 for vehicle-mount models, depending on model and factory-installed options.
