SurLok Compression Lug from Amphenol Offers High Reliability, Easy Field Installation

Sidney, N.Y. June 2008 - Amphenol Industrial, a global leader in interconnect systems, now offers the SurLok, a RADSOK-based, field-installable compression lug that offers higher ampacity, lower insertion force, higher cycle durability and increased reliability. Amphenol's SurLok is ideal for applications that require reduced outage times to sustain generated electricity levels, as found in wind energy, process control and railway applications.

SurLok is available in four sizes with seven ampacity options; a 3.6 mm contact (70 A with 8 AWG), a 5.7 mm contact (100 A with 6 AWG and 125 A with 4 AWG), an 8.0 mm contact (175 A with 2 AWG and 200 A with 1 AWG) and a 10.3 mm contact (250 A with 1/0 AWG and 350 A with 2/0 AWG).

The secure connection of SurLok ensures voltage and amperage levels will be maintained throughout the duration of the application. The head of the pin locks into place once mated to the RADSOK connector. The plastic housing, available for all four sizes, snaps over the connector to act as a protective cover.

Industry-standard color codes specify the wire size needed for the compression lug. Any U-indent/clamshell or four-indenter crimp tool can be used to perform the crimp termination on the wire, eliminating the need to purchase a special crimp tool that would increase overall maintenance costs. SurLok lugs are RoHS-compliant.

The patented Amphenol RADSOK contact technology used in the SurLok connectors significantly increases ampacity, while reducing insertion force, temperature rise and voltage drop. RADSOK contacts provide a large contact area, while utilizing the tensile strength properties of the flat, high conductivity alloy grid for the high normal forces required for conductivity. The increased contact area and high tensile strength correlate to increased electricity generation in wind power applications.

SurLok mating pins are available for all four sizes with a threaded tail.

Pricing for a 10.3 mm pin and socket starts at $9 per mated pair in quantities of 1,000. Delivery is 12 weeks ARO.
