Combined Nightlight/Receptacle has tamper-resistant design.

June 6, 2008 - Tamper-Resistant Nightlight/GFCI Receptacles are designed to meet 2008 NEC standards for child electrical safety pertaining to newly constructed residential units. Lexan lens-sealed LED nightlight has 20-year life expectancy, and integrated photocell automatically turns light on and off in dark and daytime conditions, respectively. Duplex receptacle's built-in shutter system prevents children from inserting metal objects into slots and touching electrically live components.

Pass & Seymour/Legrand Unveils New Tamper-Resistant Nightlight/GFCI Combination Devices

SYRACUSE, N.Y. (May 29, 2008) - Pass & Seymour/Legrand (P&S), a leading manufacturer of electrical wiring devices and home systems, introduces its new Tamper-Resistant Nightlight/GFCI Receptacles, designed to meet the 2008 National Electrical CodeŽ (NEC) standards for child electrical safety. The NEC requires all electrical receptacles in newly constructed residential units to be Tamper-Resistant Receptacles.

The newly designed Tamper-Resistant Nightlight/GFCI incorporates a sealed LED nightlight into a duplex receptacle. This is twice as convenient as the former P&S model, which featured a nightlight and single receptacle combination, and the LED maintains the same light output.

The LED nightlight is sealed with a Lexan lens, safer for children, and the light's 20-year life expectancy eliminates the need to change bulbs. A photocell illuminates the light in the dark and turns it off automatically in the daytime.

In addition, the receptacle's built-in shutter system prevents children from inserting metal objects into the slots and touching electrically live components. The improved shutter design accepts plugs more easily, with no additional force needed to remove the plug from the receptacle.

"Tamper-Resistant Receptacles are proven to offer the most reliable protection against child electrical injuries, unlike plastic outlet caps which can be removed or forgotten," said Bill Timmons, residential product manager at P&S. "The new Nightlight/GFCI devices meet the 2008 code requirements while offering even greater convenience."

The Tamper-Resistant Nightlight/GFCI installs just like standard P&S receptacles.
