Dow Biocides Introduces Enhanced BIOBAN ULTRA BIT Antimicrobial for Industrial Water-based Products

Dow Biocides, a business unit of The Dow Chemical Company, introduces BIOBAN(TM) ULTRA BIT Antimicrobial, an enhanced broad spectrum biocide used for the protection of industrial water-based products against bacteria, yeasts, and fungi, at the STLE Annual Meeting in Cleveland, Ohio. BIOBAN ULTRA BIT, which does not contain or release formaldehyde, provides excellent chemical stability and good compatibility with most metalworking fluid formulations.
BIOBAN ULTRA BIT is a high-purity glycolic solution of benzisothiazolinone (BIT) and shows efficacy in preserving oil-in-water emulsions for metalworking fluid formulations. Key benefits of this newly enhanced product include: fewer impurities, light color, and the ability to be used at higher temperatures and under very alkaline conditions where other preservatives are ineffective.
Additionally, BIOBAN ULTRA BIT has shown to have particularly good synergy with the multifunctional primary amine CORRGUARD(TM) EXT from ANGUS Chemical Company. The combination of the two products demonstrates enhanced performance and maintains control of bacteria and fungi for longer periods.

BIOBAN ULTRA BIT Antimicrobial is an effective preservative in most aqueous compositions and is compatible with most raw materials used in microbiologically susceptible products. It is also compatible with materials of construction such as stainless steel, polystyrene, high-density polyethylene, polypropylene, Teflon and nylon.
