All-In-One Traffic Camera optimizes vehicle imaging.

June 2, 2008 - IIT Traffic Camera System contains all 5 core automatic license plate recognition elements - camera, IR illuminator, ambient light sensor, triggering mechanism, and OCR processor - as well as heater and demister in all-weather housing. Self-contained, in-image triggering (IIT) system uses IR light reflected from each passing car to tell camera when to image license plate, while combination of reflected IR light and ambient light is read by sensors to set correct exposure settings.

Launch of New IIT Traffic Camera System

JAI has released its new IIT (In-Image Triggering) Traffic Camera System, an all-in-one camera solution for traffic management and vehicle imaging. It is an easily installable, compact, single housing camera with a fully integrated license plate reading engine incorporating the camera, illuminator and ALPR processing.

From open road tolling and congestion charging to traffic monitoring and enforcement applications, the need for camera systems with automatic license plate recognition (ALPR) capabilities continues to grow.

The one obstacle that has hitherto inhibited widespread deployment - the infrastructural complexity and cost of traditional ALPR systems - has now been swept away by a new generation of all-in-one ALPR systems, epitomized by the all-new IIT (In-Image Triggering) Traffic Camera System from JAI, a leading provider of vehicle recognition/imaging technologies.

JAI's IIT Camera System is a self-contained, self-triggering system that contains all five core ALPR elements - camera, IR illuminator, ambient light sensor, triggering mechanism, and OCR processing engine - plus a heater and demister, in a compact all-weather housing that can be easily attached to a pole or other simple structure when a gantry isn't available or doesn't make economic sense.

Any all-in-one ALPR system must have the same triggering reliability as conventional laser-based or in-ground sensors. JAI's new solution features a unique in-image triggering system that uses the IR light reflected from each passing car to tell the camera when to image the vehicle's license plate.

The combination of reflected IR light and ambient light is also read by sensors inside the IIT system enclosure that set the correct exposure settings on the camera for achieving the best image quality.

Once the image is captured, JAI's IIT Camera System not only performs OCR extraction of the license plate information, but can also be configured to combine license plate information and vehicle markings into a unique "vehicle fingerprint" for vehicle matching applications.

JAI's IIT Camera System offers a variety of different interfaces to back-office business systems for billing or other tasks, including WiMAX, WiFi, GPRS and Ethernet, with a choice of image formats including TIFF or JPEG with adjustable compression ratio. The system is designed for low power (24V DC) operation under all weather conditions.

This all-new, all-in-one ALPR solution changes the game across the whole spectrum of intelligent traffic solutions. Government agencies and roadway operators who may previously have hesitated to implement the infrastructure of a traditional system can now fully exploit the advantages of ALPR - with the unique IIT Traffic Camera System from JAI.
