May 22, 2008 - Supplied in reverse gullwing package, VLRE31xx (yellow) and VLRK31xx (red) SMD LEDs utilize AlInGaP technology offer respective luminous intensities of 112-285 and 71-285 mcd. These 1.9 mm-high products, with top-down mounting, emit light through PCB and incorporate non-diffused lens suited for coupling to light pipes and backlighting. Along with 2 kV ESD withstand voltage, RoHS-compliant products offer 30 mA forward current, 2.3 V forward voltage, and 75 mW power dissipation.

Devices Utilize AllnGaP Technology to Provide Luminous Intensity Range from 71mcd to 285mcd with 75-mW Power Dissipation

MALVERN, PENNSYLVANIA - May 9, 2008 - Moving to meet the increasing demand for AlInGaP technology, Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. (NYSE: VSH) today released two new series of yellow and red SMD LEDs in the reverse gullwing package that offer exceptional brightness and low power consumption.

Featuring an ultra-low profile of 1.9mm, Vishay's new VLRE31.. and VLRK31.. SMD LEDs offer top-down mounting and emit light through the PCB. The devices feature a non-diffused lens that is excellent for coupling to light pipes and backlighting.

The new LEDs are optimized for backlighting and illumination in automotive and transport, consumer, and general applications. Typical end products include handheld mobile devices, such as mobile phones and PDAs; switches and instrument panels; marker lights; audio and video office equipment; and signage and graphics.

The yellow VLRE31.. series offers a luminous intensity range from 112mcd to 285mcd, while the red VLRK31.. series features a 71-mcd to 285-mcd luminous intensity range. All devices offer a 30-mA forward current, with a 2.3-V forward voltage and 75-mW power dissipation. The LEDs provide an ESD-withstand voltage up to 2kV in accordance with JESD22-A114-B.

Available in 8-mm tape, the devices are compatible with automatic placement equipment, and IR reflow, vapor phase, and wave solder processes according to CECC 00802 and J-STD-020C. The LEDs are automotive qualified to AEC-Q101 and comply with RoHS 2002/95/EC and WEEE 2002/96/EC. Preconditioned according to JEDEC moisture sensitivity Level 2a standards, the reverse gullwing package is lead (Pb)-free and RoHS-compliant.

Samples and production quantities of the new VLRE31.. and VLRK31.. SMD LEDs in the reverse gullwing package are available now, with lead times of six weeks for larger orders. Pricing for U.S. delivery is $0.06/piece.
