HDMI/DVI Control Switch matches any voltage level.

May 14, 2008 - Featuring 3 independent voltage inputs, Model MAX4929E is capable of switching between 2 digital video signals going into single monitor or between multiple HDMI/DVI connectors while maintaining signal integrity. Two enable inputs allow switch to operate in normal mode or high-impedance state. Providing all switching, logic-level matching, and ESD protection required to complete 2:1 HDMI/DVI switch, MAX4929E is suited for HDTV receivers and monitors.

Low-Frequency HDMI/DVI Control Switch Matches Any Voltage Level Without Additional Components

Low-Frequency, 2:1 HDMI/DVI Control Switch

o The MAX4929E is a low-frequency 2:1 switch that is ideal for HDMI/DVI switching applications.
o This switch matches any voltage level encountered in switching without additional components.
o To enable this voltage matching, the MAX4929E provides clamping and voltage translation.
o The MAX4929E is ideal for use in HDTV monitors and receivers; when partnered with the MAX4886 2:1 TMDS switch, it provides a complete solution for multiplexing two HDMI/DVI video streams into a single port.

SUNNYVALE, CA-March 27, 2008-Maxim Integrated Products (Pink Sheets: MXIM) introduces the MAX4929E low-frequency HDMI(TM)/DVI(TM) control switch. This device is capable of switching between two digital video signals going into a single monitor or between multiple HDMI/DVI connectors while maintaining a high level of signal integrity. The MAX4929E features three independent voltage inputs that allow the user to match any voltage level encountered in switching without additional components. Providing all the switching, logic-level matching, and ESD protection required to complete a 2:1HDMI/DVI switch, the MAX4929E is ideal for use in high-definition television (HDTV) receivers and monitors. Moreover, when partnered with the MAX4886 quad, high-speed, HDMI/DVI 2:1 TMDS® digital video switch, the MAX4929E provides the ability to multiplex two HDMI/DVI video streams into a single port. This two-chip solution enables the design engineer to address multiple applications in the consumer video and PC marketplace, such as desktop PCs, HDTVs, digital projectors, and other video applications.

To support the +5V signal required by HDMI/DVI systems, the MAX4929E features a 4.5V to 5.5V V+ range. This switch also provides two enable inputs that allow the device to operate either in normal mode or a high-impedance state. This feature makes it possible to control two MAX4929Es with a single control bit, thus creating a 4:1 equivalent switch that uses a minimum of external components. To further save cost, the MAX4929E provides high ±15kV ESD protection on all external I/Os, thereby eliminating the need for external protection.

The MAX4929E operates from a single 5V supply or dual/triple supplies and is fully specified over the -40°C to +85°C extended temperature range. It is available in 20-pin QSOP and space-saving, 4.0mm x 4.0mm, 20-pin TQFN packages. Prices start at $0.85 (1000-up, FOB USA).

Maxim Integrated Products, a two billion dollar company, designs and manufactures ICs for analog and mixed-signal applications. The company's broad portfolio of 28 product categories is among the industry's deepest, with over 5400 products.
