RIVERSIDE, Calif., April 29, 2008 - Bourns, Inc., a leading manufacturer and supplier of electronic components, today announced that its Circuit Protection Division has expanded its line of robust and stable ceramic Positive Temperature Coefficient (PTC) thermistors for telecom overcurrent protection. Designated the CMF-SDP series, the new family of ceramic PTC thermistors provide improved resistance tolerance to ensure continuous circuit protection in customer premise equipment, central office, access equipment and other telecommunication center applications. Bourns new Ceramic PTCs are now available in six form factors including a compact dual package that combines two resistance matched ceramic PTCs together in a single housing to help telecommunications equipment manufacturers reduce the number of circuit protection devices required per board.

PTCs have become the device of choice to protect against the high voltage and high current environment in telecom applications. Under fault conditions the device resistance will rise exponentially and remain in a "tripped" state, providing continuous circuit protection until the fault is removed. Once the fault is removed and the power cycled, the device will return to its normal low resistance state.
Bourns' CMF-SDP family aids compliance with the latest ITU, Telcordia and UL telecommunication standards. The products are RoHS compliant, and available in thru-hole, surface mount, thru-hole dual and thru-hole quad packaging. The products are offered as a standard 50 ohm product but other resistive values are available on request. The products can withstand induction voltage of 600 VAC with a rated voltage of 230 volts.

The CMF-SDP family of ceramic PTC thermistors are available now. As a pricing reference, the CMF SDP50 is priced at $0.35 in 10,000 piece quantities.
