Linear Introduces Upgraded Line of Dual-Purpose, Residential Commercial, and Multi-Family Duty Swing and Slide Gate Operators
CARLSBAD, Calif. (May 6, 2008) - Linear LLC, an innovator in access control products and gate and door operator systems, today announced the release of its upgraded SLD and SWD commercial-grade swing and slide DC gate operators. Both gate operators have been upgraded with a heavy-duty (Grade 60) gearbox, while the SWD has a torque limiter and the SLD includes a higher speed output (11 inches per second). Both units are now designed to utilize Linear's new APeX(TM) gate controller, which features a streamlined design and improved diagnostics and communications.
The SLD slide gate operator and SWD swing gate operator have been redesigned to give door dealers and installers a single solution to meet their multi-family, commercial and residential needs without ordering extra options or changing the price of the units. The operators include soft-start and soft-stop features with integrated battery backup so they will continue to function in case of a power outage. The SLD and SWD both have stronger gearing, and the SWD has a torque-limiting device that prevents damage to the gate or operator in the event of a collision or obstruction.

The new APeX gate controller has been designed to operate with Linear's slide, swing, and barrier gate operators. With the APeX, installers can use a single controller for virtually any gate application, with auxiliary relays to accommodate ticket dispensers, alarms, strobes, etc. It features on-board, low-voltage surge protection for lightning protection on all inputs. It also has plug-in loop detector capability (open, shadow/reset, reversing), as well as pluggable, European-style field wiring connectors. There are 16 LED diagnostic lights and dual seven-segment LED displays for programming and diagnostics. The built-in MegaCode radio can program up to 40 handheld transmitters and two MGT gate edge transmitters. An integrated three-button station (momentary contact: Open, Close, Stop) is also included.
To simplify dual gate installation and operation, the APeX is networkable and allows accessory devices to be wired to either machine in a dual gate application. The APeX controller also features automatically resetting fuses, and there are no dipswitches or potentiometers to set.
