ViXS Systems Debuts XCode(TM) 3500 Series Professional Transcoder/Decoder/Encoder

Industry-leading MPEG4 AVC/MPEG2 HD Transcoding, Decoding, and Encoding Showcased at NAB 2008

TORONTO, April 14 /-- ViXS Systems, a leading developer of video processing solutions, today announced that it will showcase its new professional line of video processor ICs and video processing technologies at NAB 2008. The highlight of the show will be the introduction of the XCode(TM) 3500 Series professional Transcoder/Decoder/Encoder which supports advanced MPEG4 AVC and MPEG2 video processing. ViXS will demonstrate the features and capabilities of the XCode(TM) 3500 Series by showcasing real-time MPEG2 High-Definition (HD) to AVC HD Transcoding, real-time AVC HD to MPEG2 HD Transcoding, AVC/MPEG2 HD Decoding, and Encoding.

The ViXS XCode(TM) Series of ICs have led the way in the Consumer Electronics (CE) and PC markets by being the first - and only - single-chip hardware transcoder shipping in both the CE and PC markets with leading manufacturers such as Hitachi and Sony. Building upon these successes, ViXS is now launching the XCode(TM) 3500 Series as a new line of professional high performance video processors targeted specifically for use by Broadcast/Head-End equipment manufacturers.

Features and functions of the XCode(TM) 3500 Series line up perfectly with the needs of professional Broadcast/Head-End equipment manufacturers who are looking to build professional Transcoders, Decoders and Encoders. The XCode(TM) 3500's HD Transcoding/Decoding/Encoding, highly flexible Group of Pictures (GOP) structure, broadcast quality rate control, format conversion and dynamic resolution/bitrate control make it the ideal solution for broadcast equipment used in applications such as Broadcast Networking, Mobile TV, Terrestrial TV, and IP Distribution.

XCode(TM) 3500 Features:

o MPEG2/AVC Transcoding:
- Multiple SD stream MPEG2/AVC transcoding
- Faster than real-time transcoding

o HD MPEG2 to AVC HD/SD Transcoding:
- Baseline, Main Profile, High Profile up to Level 4.1

o AVC HD/SD to MPEG2 HD Transcoding:
- Supports up to Main Profile @ HL

o MPEG2/AVC Decoding:
- AVC up to HiP @ Level 4.1
- MPEG2 up to MP @ HL

o MPEG2/AVC Encoding:
- AVC up to HiP @ Level 4.1
- MPEG2 up to MP @ HL

o Graphics:
- Accelerated Bitblt and Color Fill
- Text and Graphics up to 1920 x 1080 resolution
- Graphics embedded via transcoding/encoding; e.g. watermarking, logo insertion, etc.

o Interfaces:
- UARTs, GPIO, I(2)C
- YCrCb SMPTE 274/296 input/output
- 8/10 bit CCIR 656 input/output
- Transport stream (2 serial/2 parallel)
- I(2)S input/output
- SPDIF input/output
- PCI v2.3 / PCI Express

"ViXS technologies and solutions on display at the NAB show represent powerful video processing solutions that enable Broadcast/Head-End manufacturers to build highly efficient professional grade products without the need to develop specific software", said Sally Daub, President and CEO of ViXS Systems. "By deploying our XCode(TM) 3500 Series, Broadcast/Head-End manufacturers have the flexibility to design highly flexible and scalable products for the broadcast industry."

ViXS will demonstrate the XCode(TM) 3500 Series and other technologies and solutions at NAB 2008 from April 14 to 17, 2008. ViXS will be in Booth Number SU5906 of South Hall 3 in the Las Vegas Convention Center.

ViXS Demonstrations at NAB:
o HD Transcoding:
- HD MPEG2 to HD AVC real-time transcoding
- HD AVC to HD MPEG2 real-time transcoding
- HD/SD processing at faster than real-time

o HD Decoding:
- HD MPEG2 decoding
- HD AVC decoding

o HD Encoding:
- HD AVC encoding up to 1080p resolution
