Aonix Rolls Out Support for Wind River Linux

PERC Ultra Real-Time Virtual Machine Powers Linux-based Java Applications

San Jose, CA, April 14, 2008-Aonix®, the provider of the PERC product line for embedded and real-time Java developers, announced the release of PERC Ultra 5.1 with support for Wind River Linux, the high-performance, commercial-grade Linux distribution optimized for embedded device development. The characteristics of Java found in PERC Ultra to address the scalability, manageability, reliability, security, and performance needs of networking and telecommunications equipment providers are also addressed with the security enhanced and carrier grade Linux provided by Wind River making these products natural companions.

PERC Ultra enjoys the largest number of deployments for any commercial real-time virtual machine, numbering close to one million fielded systems with applications spanning market segments such as aerospace, defense, telecommunications, industrial automation, and robotics. Aonix's added support for Wind River Linux gives developers another tool to effectively build, debug, and deploy their applications with the world-class tools and support they can count on from both companies.

"We're seeing increased customer demand for real-time Java," said Rob Hoffman, general manager of aerospace and defense, Wind River "The real-time deterministic strength of Aonix PERC Ultra ably fills this growing need for Java in complex mission- and safety-critical applications. We're pleased to add Aonix to our partnership team. PERC Ultra is a great complement to our advanced suite of developer tools, broad hardware support, guaranteed real-time capabilities, and the latest Linux kernel currently empowering our customers."

PERC Ultra 5.1 provides a set of Eclipse plug-ins that work seamlessly with the Workbench development toolset included in the Wind River Linux offering. With this release, Java application developers gain plug-and-play access to Workbench to speed their development while also realizing the benefits of a standard, commercial-strength Linux execution environment.

"We're finding that standards-based, open-source technologies are gaining an increasing foothold in deeply embedded, real-time mission-critical systems," noted Gary Cato, Aonix director of marketing. "With Wind River Linux gaining a strong foothold in many of the markets important to Aonix, the two products make an ideal combination, particularly since Java adoption is greater among Linux platform developers."

About the PERC Family
PERC Ultra is a virtual machine and toolset expressly created for demanding embedded and real-time systems requiring J2SE(TM) support. PERC Ultra delivers the ease and efficiency of Java(TM) Standard Edition support without sacrificing integrity, performance, or real-time behavior. The currently available version, PERC Ultra 5.1 offers Ahead-of-Time (AOT) and Just-in-Time (JIT) compilation, remote debug support, deterministic garbage collection, standard graphics and extended commercial RTOS support.

PERC Pico, the first development environment geared toward the creation of resource constrained and deeply embedded hard real-time applications and components, is based on the emerging Java Specification Request (JSR-302) for development of hard real-time safety-critical code. PERC Pico allows Java developers to write low-level Java code such as device drivers and interrupt handlers, telecommunications control plane, and signal processing for multimedia. It offers a memory footprint measured in hundreds of kilobytes in comparison to the tens of megabytes required for other Java solutions as well as boasting performance, latency, and determinism comparable to C.

Shipping and Availability
PERC Ultra 5.1 targeting Wind River Linux is immediately available. PERC development tools are available at no charge in combination with a maintenance contract. Target execution and deployment license pricing starts at $25K based on projected volume. PERC Ultra is also available with special bundling discounts when licensed together with PERC Pico.
