Crimson Fire Expands Boomer(TM) Product Line

Cost-Effective Crossover Product Now Comes on the New FurionŽ Chassis

BRANDON, S.D., April 10 / / - Crimson Fire is expanding its popular Boomer(TM) product line with the introduction of a new Furion-based product at the Fire Department Instructors Conference, which opens today.

Crimson, which is a subsidiary of Spartan Motors, Inc. (NASDAQ:SPAR), will display the new Boomer, which combines five separate emergency-rescue functions into a single device, at Booth 2433. The first-of-its-kind crossover product offers elevation, water discharge, hydraulics and air, electrical and lift in a compact, versatile device.

The product is built on a Furion cab and chassis, a new platform designed to bridge the market between custom and commercial chassis from Spartan Chassis, which is also a subsidiary of Spartan Motors. Unlike its commercial counterparts, which might wind up as a delivery or moving truck, the Furion is a purpose-built cab-and-chassis specifically designed for the emergency-rescue industry. When a Furion rolls off the Spartan Chassis line, it is ready for an apparatus to be fitted, which will save the body builder hours of time and labor in chassis preparation currently required on commercial chassis.

"Giving departments an option to build a Boomer on a Furion chassis makes this break-through device even more attractive," said Kevin Crump, president of Crimson Fire. "The Boomer addresses a real need of fire departments across the country who are unable to purchase an aerial or other elevated device because of cost.

"The Boomer's focus is on responding to the needs of the 'first-response, all-calls' market, where multi-functional devices are critical. The Furion option delivers the dependability and performance that Spartan Chassis is known for."

The Boomer features patent-pending technology that offers some of the most commonly used firefighting functions into a single device, making it ideal as a first-response, all-call vehicle. The Boomer offers:

- A 28-foot master stream that can be rotated 360 degrees and elevated
from -10 degrees to +90 degrees for greater firefighting reach
- A 6,000-watt light tower with adjustable lights to direct powerful
illumination where needed
- Connections for high-pressure hydraulic rescue tools that provide life
saving functions at the scene of major motor-vehicle accidents
- Two additional hand-line discharges to broaden the reach of
firefighters
- The ability to lift 1,000 pounds

The Boomer features Crimson's unique tubular design of stainless steel, making it one of the strongest and most durable on the market. The "boom" itself is made of extruded aluminum. With fewer than 250 components, the Boomer is easier to maintain than traditional aerials, which have more than 1,300 components.

The Furion cab and chassis features:

- A 94-inch galvanized steel cab designed for safety, roominess and
maneuverability
- Plenty of room for six crew members and equipment
- Cab-over-engine design, which allows for greater visibility and
maneuverability
- Advanced electrical system, featuring an under-dash heating and air
conditioning system

"We feel the Furion is a perfect fit for the Boomer, allowing us to extend the product line and give departments a great alternative to an all-custom product," Crump said. "Use of the Furion allows us to offer a price that is within reach of the first-response, all-calls market where affordability and multi-use are critical while still delivering exceptional performance."
