New Micro USB Cables offer the technology poised to become the next universal mobile device interconnect

The OMTP is currently comprised of nine full members: including AT&T, Orange, SK Telecom, Telecom Italia, Telefonica, Telenor, T-Mobile and Vodafone, and is sponsored by Ericsson, Nokia, and SanDisk.
"This technology provides a very convenient solution for mobile device users," by allowing the same Micro USB cable to be used among SMART PHONEs and mobile phones; Micro USB is a major step forward for mobile users, in that file transfers, data synchronization and charging capability could all be provided by a single Micro USB cable," explains Rodrigues. "More specifically, users who rely on the 'mobility' aspect of SMART PHONEs and mobile phones will enjoy the benefit of needing to carry only one cable, as opposed to the multitude of proprietary-based cables that would currently be required."
Aside from the benefits of a cross-industry standardization, the Micro USB connector is roughly half the physical thickness of a Mini USB connector, which will assist manufacturers in the design of thinner and lighter portable devices, going forward.
