New NextDimension Configuration Supports up to (3) 1TB Drives!

NextComputing Incorporates Three 1TB Seagate Barracuda Hard Drives

Nashua, NH - March 20, 2008 - NextComputing of Nashua, NH, designers and manufacturers of high-performance, portable computers, announces the incorporation of up to (3) Seagate Technology 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 hard drives in their NextDimension Evo and Evo HD flextop computers.

NextComputing has achieved this advancement by designing a dual slot mid-plane into both NextDimension Evo models, which allows (2) 1TB Barracuda 7200.11 drives to be housed beside the midplane, with no connectivity restrictions, and an additional (1) drive in place of the standard DVD drive. This opens up a high density configuration at a lower price point than a comparable 2-3 drive RAID configuration.

This addition is intended for applications requiring massive storage in either a portable or low footprint form factor within NextComputing's target industries; test/measurement, military/intelligence, digital media, oil/gas and medical imaging. The portable NextDimension Evo allows onsite use, which provides more reliable data collection, faster communications, and enhanced analytic accuracy. The NextDimension Evo is an all-in-one, portable computer solution capable of a multitude of tasks, and ideally suited for gathering, storing, and disseminating large amounts of critical data (video, audio, communication signals or encrypted code) out in the field, in a laboratory, or virtually anywhere.

Seagate Technology's Barracuda 7200.11 1TB hard drives are ideally suited for applications of this type. As the industry's only second-generation desktop perpendicular magnetic recording (PMR) hard drives, the Barracuda 7200.11 delivers 1TB of capacity, 7,200-rpm spin speeds, average seek times of 8.5ms, and caches up to 32MB. Seagate's newest Barracuda hard drives pack 1TB of data on just four discs to provide cool operating temperatures and eco-friendly power consumption of 8 watts at idle, which help extend drive life. The Barracuda 7200.11 stands alone in performance among high-capacity desktop hard drives, with category-leading 105MB/s sustained transfer rate - the highest ever. The Barracuda 7200.11 also features the lowest acoustics in the industry, as low as 2.7 Bels, which is nearly undetectable by the human ear.

In order to maximize overall performance of a system utilized for massive storage applications, the NextDimension Evo and Evo HD incorporate the latest in Quad-Core processing from both Intel and AMD, and up to (2) PCI-X and (2) PCIe slots. The NextDimension family of flextops is the first in a unique breed of portable computers to achieve this combination of high-performance processing, mass storage, and multiple I/O functionality.
