New Real-Time Infrastructure Monitoring from Aperture to Extend the Life of Data Centers and Accurately Forecast Requirements

Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring provides vendor-neutral, real-time insight into infrastructure resources and energy efficiency with unprecedented accuracy

STAMFORD, Conn., March 26 -- Aperture, the leading global provider of software for managing the physical infrastructure of data centers, has added real-time monitoring technology to its market-leading data center management system, Aperture VISTA. The new solution, Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring, provides data center management with an "IT View" into the data center while monitoring and managing the status of the entire physical infrastructure in real-time.

The solution addresses a set of fundamental problems faced by data center management across IT and data center facilities functions. Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring provides the IT organization with the information needed to right-size infrastructure resources to meet business demands, proactively manage data center capacity and improve energy efficiency. By providing real-time information on power consumption, data centers can reclaim over-provisioned resources and extend the life of data centers.

The solution also improves energy efficiency through improved measurement accuracy. Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring provides real-time information down to the rack level, enabling organizations to determine key energy efficiency metrics such as the Energy Efficiency Ratio (EER) as defined by the EPA. With worldwide energy costs rising rapidly, data center management is on the lookout for any opportunity to improve energy efficiency.

Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring also alleviates the daunting challenge faced by data center management that currently relies on multiple management consoles for alerts and alarms. The solution provides an alternative, with a vendor-neutral, real-time, and single view of the data center infrastructure through a "single pane of glass". Correlated with the VISTA configuration repository, this provides the impact analysis required to determine the potential effect on the business of an alarm.

"Investing in a new data center can cost over one hundred million dollars," said Steve Yellen, VP of Product and Market Strategy for Aperture Technologies. "Organizations are striving to get the most out of their existing data centers and accurately predict when they will need a new data center. That means knowing three to four years in advance of the requirement for an additional data center."

Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring is the result of Aperture's acquisition of The Advantage Group (TAG) in July 2007. TAG's vendor-neutral monitoring technology has been fully integrated into Aperture's VISTA solution to create a comprehensive data center infrastructure management system that spans strategic activities such as capacity planning, impact assessments, cost analyses and management reporting, and day-to-day operational activities such as monitoring and alerting.

"Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring is a vital component of our solution, both for us in terms of our company strategy and vision, and for our customers in terms of the serious challenges they are facing as data centers become more expensive and complex to manage," said Bill Clifford, CEO, Aperture. "Our customers increasingly need one overarching solution to help them to manage the data center at lowest cost - while meeting existing business objectives -and to plan and budget accurately for future data center expansion.

Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring is the first data center management application that allows equipment from different vendors to be monitored in real-time from one single, web-based console, saving time, effort and software integration and maintenance costs.

Aperture VISTA Infrastructure Monitoring also provides the additional benefits to data center management:

-- Real-time collection of information from multiple elements including power and environmental monitoring, racks, and computer room air conditioning (CRAC) units

-- Ability to identify potential disruptions before they occur with intelligent alarms spanning the data center environment including UPS/PDU power, generators, rack/environmental monitors, CRAC units, security systems and IP cameras

-- Automatic discovery of infrastructure equipment across manufacturers and communication protocols

-- Ability to set thresholds on hardware to monitor performance relative to threshold and ensure energy-efficient use of data center hardware

-- Single intuitive web-based interface for quickly spotting alarms by location and a central alarm summary window for viewing a system-wide summary of devices by alarm-state, and automatic clearing of existing alarms once the related issue has been resolved.
