Modular Cable Carrier targets robotic applications.

March 25, 2008 - Attached to installation points on any robot, pre-engineered Triflex® RS guides, protects, and extends service life of cables and hoses. Integrated fiber-rod mechanism supports excess cable carrier and cable slack parallel to robot arm and away from robotic work area. It prevents cables from moving beyond minimum bend radius, helping to maintain uninterrupted production flow. System is suited for welding applications in tight areas, multiple-tool applications, material handling, and deburring.

igus Announces Compact, Pre-Engineered Cable Carriers for Robots

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. - March 18, 2008- igus Inc. now offers Triflex® RS, a modular cable carrier designed to guide, protect and extend the service life of cables and hoses on robotic applications. The Triflex RS System is a compact, pre-engineered unit that can be attached to installation points on any robot.

The system uses igus' integrated fiber-rod mechanism to support the excess cable carrier and cable slack parallel to the robot arm and away from the robotic work area. It is designed to ensure optimal cable performance by preventing cables from moving beyond the minimum bend radius. This helps maintain an uninterrupted production flow and also increases throughput.

Triflex RS is a universal solution. The system includes: a sheet metal mounting plate, three integrated mounting brackets, two protection links and a predetermined fiber-rod assembly. It is shipped and installed as one piece and comes equipped with an integral fiber rod that springs the system to a home position after it completes one entire movement.

The Triflex RS System is well suited for welding applications in tight areas, multiple-tool applications, material handling jobs and deburring applications.

The RS System offers the following benefits:
o one, universal unit to install;
o a modular design for on-the-floor adjustments;
o easy access to cables and hoses for scheduled maintenance;
o 380 degree rotation to move at the full work envelope of the robot; and
o proven test results over one million cycles.

igus offers three versions of its Triflex R, six-axis cable carrier, including a fully enclosed design, E-Z Triflex with a push-through design for easy cable access, and Triflex R light, a low-cost alternative for those robotic applications that do not require complete cable protection. Call igus to speak with a design technician.
