Sensor detects objects in wide range of weather conditions.

March 20, 2008 - R-GAGE(TM) QT50R radar-based sensor utilizes Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar to detect moving or stationary vehicles while resisting rain, wind, humidity, and temperatures from -40° to +65°C. Detecting objects up to 15 m away, IP67-rated sensor ignores anything beyond setpoint and operates at 24 GHz in Industrial, Scientific, and Medical telecommunication band. It includes indicator LEDs and robust housing with 30 mm threaded mounting base.

Banner R-Gage(TM) Qt50r Sensor Resists Wind, Rain, and Extreme Temperatures to Reliably Detect Moving and Stationary Objects

Minneapolis, MN - March 18, 2008 - Banner Engineering Corp. introduces the R-GAGE(TM) QT50R, an advanced radar-based sensor for close and long-range presence detection in a broad range of weather conditions. The QT50R features frequency modulated technology to accurately monitor or detect objects while resisting rain, wind, humidity and extreme temperatures.

The QT50R uses Frequency Modulated Continuous Wave (FMCW) radar to reliably detect moving or stationary cars, trains, trucks and cargo. The QT50R detects target objects up to 15 m away and ignores anything beyond the setpoint. The IP67-rated sensor operates at 24 GHz in the Industrial, Scientific and Medical (ISM) telecommunication band, with no special licensing required. List price for the QT50R is $589.

"The cutting-edge QT50R features FMCW true-presence radar paired with exceptional environmental resistance, allowing the sensor to operate in heavy precipitation and temperatures ranging from -40° to 65° C," said Mike Dean, Banner Engineering product manager. "The QT50R is easy to configure and features bright indicator LEDs for simple status monitoring." Dean adds, "The QT50R's robust housing features a 30 mm threaded mounting base to provide versatile installation options."

Applications. The QT50R is ideal for outdoor and challenging environments, making it well suited for a wide variety of uses in locomotive, traffic control and many additional applications, including:

Train and tram detection and location in tunnels
Cargo positioning and detection on a truck bed
Truck detection at a loading dock
Access control to parking ramps and garage doors
Car detection in drive-thrus
Position sensing of cranes
Measuring and profiling in tollbooths
Overheight detection for tunnels and bridges
